  • Patent number: 5823856
Abstract: The invention relates to the resharpening of two-dimensionally acting knife sets in knife rims as they are used for the industrial production of wood flakes from long logs and wood cut to length. Each knife set consists of a knife plate provided with a cutting edge and of several scoring organs whose scoring blades are tightly linked to the knife plate according to the invention. After having advanced all knife sets their resharpening is done in a first phase by means of a grinding drum provided with ring grooves while the knife rim is rotating slowly. In a second grinding phase the cutting edges are touched by the grinding drum which moves slightly in axial direction and for that purpose the knife rim is arrested intermittently. During this phase the residues remaining on the cutting edges and at the scoring organs in the area of the ring grooves are ground off.

  • Patent number: 5673863
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting cuttable pieces, especially of animal or vegetal origin, into prismatic, preferably cubical shape, includes two concentric knife rotors, inner and outer knife rotors. The inner knife rotor carries a first cutting tool for cutting the cuttable pieces into slices and strips. The first cutting tool includes a plurality of plate-shaped knives and a plurality of sets of gate forming knives positioned in passage channels formed in the inner knife rotor. Each set of gate forming knives is positioned adjacent to and upstream of one of the plate-shaped knives. The gate forming knives first simultaneously cut the cuttable pieces into a plurality of strip sections. The associated plate-shaped knife then slices the strip sections to form individual strips, which are led out of the passage channel. The outer knife rotor carries a second tool, a plurality of plate-shaped knives, that cross cuts the strips coming out of the passage channels according to the desired length.

  • Patent number: 5529250
Abstract: A feeding device is disclosed for feeding cellulose material, such as wood chips to gas swept size reduction machines, and wherein the elimination of foreign particles from the material to be crushed is mainly achieved by pneumatic screening. The device includes a screening passage into which widely spread input material trickles slowly over a slide, having an angle of inclination .beta. which is slightly greater than a friction-angle whose value is determined from its surface roughness. The screening passage is impacted by an air current generated by a cross current fan and which is directed, along a channel, roughly tangentially onto a guiding wall. The guiding wall is arranged at an angle of inclination .gamma., selected so that the guiding wall functions as a pneumatic sorting table, and where it forms with the channel a discharge slit for the foreign particles.

  • Patent number: 5525094
Abstract: A method of resharpening the knives in a chipping machine while they are installed in the knives' rotor is disclosed. For this purpose all knives are moved forward one after another to their functional position by an amount that corresponds to the wear of the edges. As part of this, the radial grinding feed which is required in order to achieve the desired protrusion of the edges above the relevant area of the knives' rotor is pre-programmed based on the detected state of wear. A device to implement this method is also disclosed. The device comprises a rotational disk for the knife rotor placed on top of a machine frame and where an equipment table is provided that supports a cross-wise translatory moveable grinding unit, as well as a radially moveable adjustment device which has a sensor to determine the state of wear of the relevant area of the knife rotor 8 and a stop face to limit the knife feed.

  • Patent number: 5070918
Abstract: A device suitable for the continuous feeding of wood pieces of approximately the same length into flaking machines comprises a feed trough opening into the flaking machine, behind which there is arranged a loading magazine whose cross section agrees with the feed trough. The lengths of wood are shaped into compact piles, which are then advanced cyclically into the flaking machine by means of a pushing plate. In order to be able to bring the pushing plate back over the log pile already prepared for further processing inside the loading magazine, the pushing plate is able to be slewed upon a support that can be moved parallel to the floor of the device, over both the feed trough and the loading magazine. Control members attached to the pushing plate interact for short intervals with stationary control paths at the beginning and end of the return trip of the pushing plate to cause the plate to tip either into its withdrawal position or into its pushing position.

  • Patent number: 5009586
Abstract: The agglomerator includes a disk-shaped annular chamber which is confined on its periphery by an annular perforated die, the outside of which is swept by knives. The annular chamber narrows towards its periphery, and at least one pressing blade rotates in the chamber. The blade has an active flank which forms, with the perforated inside wall of the perforated die, a revolving plasticizing chamber which narrows in the direction opposite to that of revolution. Plastics wastes in the form of chips, flakes or a fleece, resulting from precomminution, are fed axially into the annular chamber and are precompacted by the pressing blade in the revolving plasticizing chamber. The wastes are degassed and plasticized by autogenously controlled pressure and temperature conditions and are forced through the perforated die. The narrowing of the chamber toward the periphery results in increased throughput capacity without causing thermal damage to the material.

  • Patent number: 4583574
Abstract: Disclosed is a flaker for trunk and residual wood for the direct production of a mass of chips free of splinters and low in fines. Flaking takes place within a blade rotor equipped with a replaceable blade ring, which together with its housing may be moved back and forth in front of the outlet of a wood feed chute equipped with pressure elements. A compression chamber is located inside the blade ring, in which the wood to be cut intermittently abuts against a counter support. The compression chamber is equipped with additional pressure elements in order to hold the wood substantially still and without fluttering, until it is cut, without leaving a residue, even in the case of wood of large cutting width. The additional pressure elements act transversely to the counter support. A stationary, slightly raised entrance barrier is arranged directly in front of the compression chamber.
