Patent number: 6626394Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus in a reeling process of a paper web. A paper web (PR) is continuously reeled around a reeling core (10) via a roll assembly (T). A first press device arrangement (8) is arranged to move with respect to the frame (16) of the reel-up and by means of the first press device arrangement (8) a first nip contact (N1) is maintained to the paper web (PR) that is being formed on the reeling core, and the first press device arrangement (8) is transferred with respect to the frame (16) of the reel-up into a nip contact (N2) with a second press device arrangement (11). According to the invention, the section of the roll assembly (T) before the first press device arrangement (8) and the first press arrangement (8) are formed as separate units. The paper web (PR) is guided immediately into nip contact (N1) in the first press device arrangement (8) via the roll assembly (T) stationary with respect to the frame (16) of the reel-up.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2001Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventors: Teppo Kojo, Janne Veräjänkorva

Patent number: 6622958Abstract: The invention relates to a method for reeling up, in which a paper web or the like is continuously reeled on a reeling core. The formation of the paper reel is controlled at least by means of an actuator (6) of the reeling core (4), advantageously by means of a centre-drive, an actuator (3) of a primary surface drive device (2) of the paper reel, and a nip load (N1) effective between the outer perimeter of a paper reel (5) formed on the reeling core (4) and the outer perimeter of the primary surface drive device (2) of the paper reel, said nip load being produced by means of an actuator (10), a so-called nip load device. According to the invention the torque (Mrs) produced by the actuator (3) of the primary surface drive device (2) of the paper reel is selected to be smaller than the sum (&Sgr;Mi) of the torque values produced by the other actuators driving the paper reel that is being formed.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2001Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignee: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventors: Seppo Luomi, Janne Veräjänkorva, Esa Aalto, Timo Rautakorpi

Publication number: 20030176282Abstract: The present invention teaches an improved process for preparing a population of microcapsules having a substantially uniform size distribution, especially useful for manufacture of carbonless paper. The improved process teaches use of membrane material having a pre-selected pore size in the capsule manufacture process. A core material is provided along with a receiving solution for receiving the core material. The receiving solution is a nonsolvent for the core material. The core material is passed under pressure through the membrane into a moving or turbulent receiving solution forming uniform droplets of core material dispersed in the receiving solution. Wall-forming material is added to the receiving solution for coating the core material droplets. The coating on the droplets is polymerized forming microcapsules. This novel process also lends itself to microcapsule formation in a continuous process.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2002Publication date: September 18, 2003Applicant: Appleton Papers Inc.Inventors: Troy Ronald Seehafer, George Arthur Stahler

Patent number: 6616085Abstract: A guard is mounted for rotation about the downstream drum of a winder having two spaced apart winder drums which support a paper roll. The guard has a D-shaped leading-edge which approaches the paper roll. The leading-edge is articulated so that if an operator's hand becomes wedged between the leading-edge and the paper roll, articulation on the leading-edge closes a switch which brings the winder to a stop. A hydraulic actuator extends between a lowermost radial edge of each sector shaped extension and a fixed support. Operation of the hydraulic actuator causes the guard to rotate about the axis of the downstream winder drum so as to be between an operator and the downstream side of the winder drum. The leading edge of the the guard is positioned to limit operator access to the nip formed between the paper roll and the downstream winder drum.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2002Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence J. Patent number: 6613194Abstract: A web of tissue is formed in a twin wire former, followed by an air press for water removal in the pressing section, passing onto a Yankee dryer. A headbox injects stock between upper and lower dryer fabrics brought together on a breast roll. The fabrics move over vacuum boxes, and the web is heated with steam and passed between an upper pressure box and a lower vacuum box forming an air press which dewaters the web. A sheet transfer pickup vacuum box holds the sheet to the upper fabric as the lower fabric diverges from the upper fabric. A pressure roller transfers the web onto a Yankee dryer. The fabrics are cleaned on vertical runs before returning to the breast roll.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2002Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignees: Metso Paper, Inc., Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Roger A. Publication number: 20030159789Abstract: The invention relates to a method in leading a web threading tail particularly in a paper machine. In the method a device is used, which is moved close to a fabric transporting the web threading tail and by means of which the web threading tail is detached from the surface of the fabric. The web threading tail is transferred laterally relative to its direction of travel to the following web threading device, after which the device is moved away from the vicinity of the web threading tail. The transfer of the web threading tail in the cross direction of the paper machine takes place mechanically by pushing. The invention also related to a corresponding device.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2003Publication date: August 28, 2003Applicant: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventor: Juha Salmela
