  • Patent number: 5755274
Abstract: The strip casting plant has a casting nozzle (10) displaceable in the direction of flow (F) of the liquid metal and adjustable perpendicular to this, to supply liquid metal to the adjustable roller gap (30) between rotating dies (26, 28). The casting nozzle (10) consists of an upper and a lower nozzle element (14, 16) and in vertical strip casting plants a left and a right nozzle element (14, 16) mounted on a melt distribution trough, and two side limiters which form a slot-like outlet opening (20) for the liquid metal. One or both of the nozzle elements (14, 16) is adjustable at least in the area of the outlet opening (20). On operation of the strip casting plant, the casting nozzle (10) is advanced at the start with outlet opening (20) in start position (S) and then withdrawn to work position (W), where the outlet opening (20) is expanded under adaptation to the casting rollers (26, 28).

  • Patent number: 5340463
Abstract: A process for obtaining a multilayer material suitable for transformation by drawing or drawing and ironing into a hollow body having a height to diameter ratio greater than 2.5. The process comprises subjecting an aluminum alloy substrate to an anodizing or chemical conversion surface treatment for improving adherence thereto, covering one of the surfaces of the substrate by adhering a plastic material film thereto, and covering the other of the surfaces with a coating of varnish including a solid lubricant in the form of particles which are harder than the varnish. The coated substrate is subsequently drawn or drawn and ironed into a hollow body utilizing tools having a hardness which is greater than the particles.

  • Patent number: 5224535
Abstract: A method of avoiding run out on a machine for casting between rolls is disclosed. The method measures the value of a parameter such as the electric strength or fluid pressure supplying the motor which rotates the rolls, or the torque or force exerted by the strip on at least one of the rolls, at at least 20 equidistant positions at the periphery of at least one of the rolls and during each revolution. As soon as a reduction in the value of at least one of these parameters is observed in 3 successive positions during revolution n, relative to the value at the same positions read during revolution n-1, the rotary speed of the roll is reduced until the difference disappears, then the roll is gradually returned to the initial speed. This method enables strips of normal length to be cast without any being discarded and without any scrap being produced.
