  • Patent number: 5810778
Abstract: An apparatus for a controlled delivery of a liquid preparation from a cylindrical liquid container, which has a liquid outlet at its front end and a movable wall, which acts like a piston at its rear end is provided. The driving force acting on the movable wall for expelling the liquid from the container is generated by means of a piston rod in connection with a piston, which by the action of the atmospheric pressure is urged into a space where a vacuum has been established. The amount delivered can be varied according to different modes by providing an auxiliary force which acts on the piston during the initial stage of its movement into the vacuum space.

  • Patent number: 5804217
Abstract: Porous cellulose matrices with a defined particle size and a significantly higher porosity (i.e. pore volume) than conventional formulations, such as pellet formulations containing cellulose and binders are prepared. The cellulose is mechanically treated with low adhesion to the process equipment during a controlled gradual addition of an aqueous based fluid, optionally containing a surface-active ingredient, into regular particles, which are finally dried to obtain dry porous cellulose matrices. The so obtained matrices can be used as carriers for bioactive substances in multiple-unit preparations or tablets.

  • Patent number: 5783559
Abstract: The invention relates to solutions containing IGF-1 or any functional analogue thereof in which pH is 5.5 to 6.5, preferably 5.7 to 6.2. The amount of phosphate as buffer substance should be in a concentration of less than 50 mmol/L Preferably the formulation is an aqueous solution of IGF-1 and phosphate as buffer substance in a concentration of 5 to 50 mmole or more preferably 5-20 mmol/L, e.g. 10 mmol/L. The solution should be isotonic. The solution gives a reduced pain upon subcutaneous injection. The invention also relates to a process for preparation of the formulation by mixing IGF-1 or any functional analogue thereof with a buffer substance giving pH 5.5 to 6.5 and an isotonic agent. It also relates to a method for treatment of a patient in need of IGF-1 or any functional analogue thereof by administering the claimed formulation.

  • Patent number: 5750369
Abstract: Molecular cloning and expression of a prostaglandin F2.alpha. receptor which is linked to the signal transduction pathways via guanine nucleotide binding regulatory (G) proteins and measured by, for example, cAMP, IP.sub.3 or intracellular calcium. By constructing cell lines that express a prostaglandin F2.alpha., receptor, the affinities and efficacies of agonist and antagonist drugs with the receptor can be assessed. A recombinant DNA construct includes a vector and a DNA fragment encoding a prostaglandin F2.alpha. receptor. A host cell is transformed with a recombinant DNA construct, so that the DNA fragment is expressed and a prostaglandin F2.alpha., receptor is produced. Suitable host systems include eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, especially mamalian cells such as rat or human. Additionally, for diagnostic purposes, antibodies to a prostaglandin F2.alpha. receptor can be prepared by producing all or a portion of the receptor protein and injecting these into various types of mammals.
