Publication number: 20080165635Abstract: In summary, the present invention provides a method for estimating maximum available write power of an optical storage drive. Optical drives have a certain guaranteed maximum power corresponding to the largest emission angles and worst case electrical parameters of the laser, but many drives could produce more if needed because they are not worst case. The extra power that is available from the lasers that is not worst case is wasted. By identifying drives with lasers that have favorable parameters, the maximum available write power of a drive becomes larger. The present invention solves this problem by providing an estimation method wherein a beam of laser light is generated having a power level (P), a first parameter of the laser light source and a second parameter of the beam of laser light that is generated are measured and used to estimate the maximum available write power.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 6, 2006Publication date: July 10, 2008Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, N.V.Inventor: Johannes Leopoldus Bakx

Publication number: 20080164957Abstract: A frequency-tunable arrangement comprises a resonance circuit (RS) having a capacitive part (C1, C2, Cv1, Cv2) that is tunable throughout a capacitance range. A plurality of amplifiers (AB, AS1, AS2, AS3) is coupled to the resonance circuit so as to form an oscillation loop. At least one of the amplifiers is a switchable amplifier (AS1) that is switchable between an active state and an idle state. The switchable amplifier causes a capacitance variation in parallel to the capacitive part of the resonance circuit when switched between the active and the idle state. The switchable amplifier is arranged so that the capacitance variation substantially corresponds to the capacitance range throughout which the capacitive part can be tuned.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2005Publication date: July 10, 2008Applicant: Koninkijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Arnaud Herbert

Publication number: 20080165632Abstract: For optical data storage applications a near field optical system can be used. In near field optical systems an accurate alignment of a solid immersion lens with respect to a disc surface is crucial. The correction of a tilt between the lens and the disc is performed by use of auxiliary beams. By comparing the gap signal for the auxiliary beams the air gap height and disc tilt can be determined.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2006Publication date: July 10, 2008Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, N.V.Inventors: Ferry Zijp, Coen Adrianus Verschuren

Patent number: 7398395Abstract: Content material is protected with a variety of watermarking processes. Different subsets of the protected content material are submitted to different watermarking processes. At the rendering device, a watermark detector is configured to detect one or more different watermarks. Only if the particular watermark(s) that the rendering device is configured to detect is removed from the protected content material will the rendering device permit the rendering of the protected material. If the particular watermark(s) that the rendering device is configured to detect is unpredictable, or if the particular segment that is protected by a particular watermark is undetectable, a wholesale removal of specific watermarks from the watermarked material will neither be efficient nor economically viable.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2001Date of Patent: July 8, 2008Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Michael Epstein

Patent number: 7398442Abstract: An electronic circuit that includes components that operate asynchronously of one another. An interface element has inputs coupled to a respective one of the components. The interface element supplies a logic output signal that is a logic function of signals at the inputs and dependent on the relative timing of the signals at the inputs. The electronic circuit is switched to a test mode, in which test input signals are applied to the electronic circuit from a test signal source. During test a difference is caused to occur between the time intervals after which the test signal source affects different ones of the signals at the inputs of the interface element. Preferably the test control circuit activates said difference in the test mode and not in the normal operating mode.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2003Date of Patent: July 8, 2008Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Adrianus Marinus Gerardus Peeters

Patent number: 7397887Abstract: In cardiac CT, it is the goal to acquire data for a full scan as fast as possible. For this reason, gantry rotation is increased further and further, such that the G-forces on the tube of the devices on the gantry become a limiting factor. Alternatively, the temporal resolution of scans can be doubled by mounting two complete tube-detector assemblies onto the gantry. However, this solution doubles the costs for the tube-detector assembly. According to the present invention it is proposed to modify one of the tube-detector assemblies such that one detector has a reduce size. Then, information from another detector is used to supplement scanning results from the detector with reduced size.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2004Date of Patent: July 8, 2008Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Michael Harald Kuhn
