Publication number: 20040085340Abstract: A method and apparatus for editing a source video that has already been taken to stabilize images in the video. To eliminate jerky motion from a video, changes in shots are first detected. Then, any jerkiness within the video of that shot is classified and the video is segmented further into smaller segments based on this classification. The jerkiness within the selected segments is removed. The corrected shot, comprising a plurality of frames, is then added to the preceding shot until all shots of the video have been appropriately corrected for jerkiness. To help the user identify the shots being edited, keyframes or snapshots of the shots are displayed, thereby allowing the user to decide whether processing of the shot is desired and which shots should be incorporated into the final video.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2002Publication date: May 6, 2004Applicant: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.VInventors: Nevenka Dimitrova, Radu S. Patent number: 6731242Abstract: In a location method based on distance measurements, the distance between a mobile station and a base station is measured by finding the one-way propagation time between the two radio stations. This one-way propagation time is obtained by sending a location signal and measuring its time of arrival. In order to mitigate inaccuracy due to use of measurements corresponding to reflected radio paths which are longer than direct radio paths, a method is proposed to ensure that the distance calculation will be done by using the first time of arrival of the location signal. The first time of arrival corresponds to a propagation through the shortest radio path, which is likely to be the direct path. The first time of arrival is determined by using a location signal which includes a plurality of identical messages, and by combining these messages on reception in order to obtain a signal of higher energy of which the shortest path is detected.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2000Date of Patent: May 4, 2004Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Juha Heikki Antero Rapeli

Patent number: 6731812Abstract: Data (D) is compressed in dependence on a compression parameter (CPAR). An example of such data compression is coding a sequence of pictures in accordance with a standard defined by the Moving Pictures Experts Group. In the process of compressing the data (D), the following three steps are repetitively carried out. In a prediction step (PRD), it is predicted, on the basis of an initial value (VALint) of the compression parameter (CPAR), which amount of compressed data Xprd will have been obtained at a future instant of time (Tfut). In an adaptation step (ADP), the initial value (VALint) is adapted on the basis of a difference (&Dgr;X) between the predicted amount of data (Xprd) and a desired amount of data (Xdes), so as to obtain an adapted value (VALadp) of the compression parameter (CPAR). In an application step (APL), the adapted value (VALadp) of the compression parameter (CPAR) is applied until a subsequent prediction step (PRD) followed by a subsequent adaptation step (ADP) is carried out.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1999Date of Patent: May 4, 2004Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Nicolas Bailleul
