Patents Assigned to PLACE, Inc.
  • Publication number: 20070140983
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and composition for loading one or more drugs in a solution onto one or more ion exchange resin particles to form a drug-loaded resin particle. The drug-loaded resin particle is separated from the solution and dried before recombining the drug-loaded resin particle with the solution to load more drugs onto the drug-loaded resin particle from the solution.

  • Patent number: 5814050
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining offset-inset distances in the course of a total hip arthroplasty procedure. The apparatus includes a first attachment attachable to the superior eminence of the acetabulum, a second attachment point capable of being fixed to the femur at approximately the position of the greater trochanter, and preferably, a measuring device for measuring and noting the distance between the reference point and either the third or fourth fixed points.

  • Patent number: 5755794
Abstract: An apparatus for use in surgical hip replacement procedures for ensuring that the replacement hip joint components are properly sized. The acetabulum and femur are exposed, one end of a flexible measuring cable is attached to the superior eminence of the acetabulum and the cable is extended inferiorly so that it is aligned with a specific point on the femur, preferably the lesser trochanter. The selected point on the femur is marked and the scaling or marking indicator carried by the flexible cable is positioned in relation thereto. After this reference distance between the fixed points is determined, the flexible cable is moved out of the way while its end remains fixed to the acetabulum. The installation of an acetabular cup prosthesis and the femur is prepared to receive the femoral implant. After the femur is prepared, trial femoral implants are installed to determine the proper fit with the femoral canal.

A flexible measuring cable is attached to the superior eminence of the exposed acetabulum and extended inferiorly to be aligned with a specific point on the femur. A marking indicator carried by the flexible cable is positioned to provide a reference distance between the fixed points on the acetabulum and the femur. Trial femoral implants can be selected to have proper neck length by extending the flexible cable attached at one end to the acetabulum toward the marked position of the femur so that the marked position is aligned with the indicator fixed to the cable. The cable may again be extended between the fixed point on the superior eminence of the acetabulum and the marked point of the femur and greater or lesser length femoral neck components may be selected until the correct length is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5186161
Abstract: A modular fireplace construction utilizes interlocking corner joints in the fire block area to provide a stable, free-standing base for the smoke chamber and chimney sections above. Individual sections are cast from an extremely heat resistant composition containing Luminate cement and Perlite aggregate. The completed fireplace does not require the addition of a flue liner. Dowel apertures may be formed in the individual sections which receive handling dowels to enable assemblers to easily lift and accurately place the sections during assembly.

  • Patent number: 4379335
Abstract: An electronic controller and portable programmer system for a pneumatically-powered point-to-point robot is disclosed. The microprocessor-based controller includes a read-only memory for storing the main control program, a non-volatile memory (EAROM) for storing a sequence of robot functions forming a user program, an output interface for transmitting control signals to the robot solenoid values, and an input interface for receiving feedback pressure signals to indicate that the various robot functions have been completed. The portable programmer provides a teach control unit, which is used to enter, edit, and test the user program. The teach control unit includes a matrix keyboard, a display, circuit means for decoding the keyboard and driving the display, and an interface for providing serial communication with the controller.

  • Patent number: 4201313
Abstract: For feeding short rods, which term includes tubes, such as clinical thermometer tubes with bulbs at one end, a feeding hopper has downwardly-converging bottom walls terminating in an elongated gap between their lower edges forming an elongated slot. Reciprocable horizontally beneath the slot is fluid-pressure-operated ejector plunger which feeds, one at a time, the short rods to a horizontal receiver composed of a pair of spaced parallel guide bars separated by a distance large enough to pass the rod but to detain the bulb, whereupon the rod pivots around the detained bulb to swing downward into the slot and comes to rest between the bars with the bulb uppermost and the rod suspended vertically from the bars.
