Abstract: This invention relates to modified bimetallic or polymetallic (other than Groups IA, IIA and IIB metals) catalysts and the use thereof in the preparation of alkoxylation products, i.e., condensation reaction products of alkylene oxides and organic compounds having at least one active hydrogen. In another aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing the modified bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts for alkoxylation using a divalent or polyvalent metal or a divalent or polyvalent metal-containing compound as sources for the catalytically-active metal. In a further aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing alkoxylation products that have beneficial, narrow molecular weight ranges using the modified bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts.

Abstract: A process is provided for the preparation of a mixture of parylene dimers wherein the distribution of dimers within the mixture is predetermined by the proper selection of halogenated and non-halogenated 2,2-paracyclophane starting material. Since the dimers are free of alpha-halogens, the formation of environmentally undesirable acid halides during the deposition of parylene films and coatings is avoided. Since the dimers are useful in the preparation of inert, transparent, conformal coatings of parylene, desirable chemical and/or physical properties can be imparted to such coating by formation of a dimer mixture of a predetermined composition. The parylene film properties, composition and deposition conditions will be different by varying dimer distribution.

Abstract: A liquid coatings application process and apparatus is provided in which supercritical fluids, such as supercritical carbon dioxide fluid, are used to reduce to application consistency viscous coatings compositions to allow for their application as liquid sprays. The coatings compositions are sprayed by passing the composition under pressure through an orifice into the environment of the substrate.

Abstract: Disclosed are surface-active polycarbodiimides containing a hydrophilic portion and a hydrophobic portion joined through the reaction of a carbodiimide group with a reactive functional group. The surface-active polycarbodiimides may be linear or branched, monodisperse or polydisperse, but preferably are of the branched, monodisperse type. The surface-active polycarbodiimides are useful as surfactants, and are particularly useful as emulsifiers in cross-linkable, carboxyl-containing resin systems, such as aqueous latexes.

Abstract: A process for the electrostatic liquid spray application of coatings to a substrate is disclosed. The process comprises forming a liquid mixture in a closed system comprising at least one polymeric component capable of forming a coating on the substrate and a solvent component consisting essentially of supercritical carbon dioxide in at least an amount which when added to the polymeric component is sufficient to render the viscosity of the mixture to a point suitable for spray application. The liquid mixture is then sprayed onto a substrate to form a liquid coating by passing the mixture under pressure through an orifice into the environment of the substrate to form a liquid spray, while negatively electrically charging the liquid mixture by a high electrical voltage relative to the substrate and electric current by electrical discharge from at least one external electrode located near the orifice and close to the spray.
