  • Patent number: 4655341
Abstract: A device for supplying a mixture of pieces of material or fragments of different materials and sizes to one or more receiving units wherein the mixture is supplied to the device within a relatively limited area from where it is distributed to the receiving units so that each of them receives a substantially uniform layer of the mixture at the same time as it is spread out over a wide area. The device comprises one or more vibrating troughs each with a supporting surface at the receiving end and a protuberance centrally mounted in the trough from which the material is spread over the supporting surface (15) during the formation of a uniformly thick layer of material which is carried along the supporting surface to the discharge end of each vibrating trough where it is discharged.

  • Patent number: 4631163
Abstract: An object is produced from a tubular blank (10,15,17) of thermoplastic material of the type polyester or polyamide, preferably of polyethylene terephthalate by reducing the thickness of amorphous material in one or several areas of the blank by means of one single or several consecutive re-shaping operations. A mechanical shaping device (23,29,71,81) moves a transitional zone (13,14,113) situated between thicker and thinner material along the blank and elongates simultaneously the blank in the moving direction of the transitional zone. After the last re-shaping operation the thinner material has preferably an oriented state. During the re-shaping operation the temperature of the material in the transitional zone (13,14,113) is controlled at a level which, immediately before the re-shaping operation, is within or close to the range of the glass transition temperature (TG).

  • Patent number: 4615925
Abstract: A method for providing a container with one or more layers of barrier material during the production of the container from a thermoplastic. A preform (10) is stretched in its axial direction, generally an amount corresponding to the total axial stretching required for conversion of the preform to a container, after which the stretched preform (11, 13) is provided with one or more barrier layers (12, 14), and the preform is then heated and converted to a container. In one embodiment, the axially stretched preform (15) is produced by assembling axially stretched part-preforms (13a, b) covered with one or more barrier layers. The combined preform is then converted to a container. By means of the invention, it is possible to reduce the thickness of the barrier layers at the time of their application, which considerably simplifies the latter.

  • Patent number: 4595550
Abstract: A method of forming a preform having crystallized thermoplastic material from a blank of orientable thermoplastic material, such as polyethylene terephthalate, which comprises laterally displacing first and second regions of a blank, preferably tubular, of orientable thermoplastic material to form an intermediate region between the displaced regions having outer surfaces facing in opposite directions. Pressure is applied to the outer surfaces of the intermediate region to relatively displace these outer surfaces longitudinally of the blank while concurrently reducing the thickness of one of the first and second regions to the value of the thickness that the material would obtain if freely stretched to flow to achieve crystallization of the material in the aforesaid one region. The material in the one region, during the reduction of thickness thereof flowing from the orientable material thereof to a transition zone to form the one region which is reduced in thickness and is elongated in length.

  • Patent number: 4564495
Abstract: A method of producing a container of polyethylene terephthalate or similar thermoplastic material from a tubular blank of amorphous material. A mechanical forming element moves a transitional zone between amorphous (thicker) material and thinner oriented material stretched to flow during simultaneous elongation of the blank in the direction of movement of the transitional zone. The stretched and oriented material is heated to a temperature higher than the temperature of the material immediately before stretching. As a result, the internal stresses produced in the material during earlier stretching are relieved. Heating causes the length of the material in the direction of stretching also to be reduced. Each subsequent forming stage for shaping the container takes place at a temperature lower than the temperature at the immediately preceding forming stage.

  • Patent number: 4540544
Abstract: A method for producing a container from a tubular blank of polyethylene terephthalate or similar material, according to which a polyethylene terephthalate blank is stretched at least approximately 3-fold to produce a preform (20). In an axial section through the preform, the contour length substantially corresponds to the contour length in an axial section through the final container. The preform (20) is heated to a temperature above the glass transition temperature (TG) and is converted to the container (21) in a blow mold (12). In doing so, the contour length of the material is maintained through successive reduction of the axial length of the body (23) which the preform constitutes during the conversion to the container. In order to achieve this, the base portion of the blow mold (11) is moved towards the orifice (22) of the final container.

  • Patent number: 4391861
Abstract: A preform of thermoplastic material composed of a number of separate part-preforms fitted into one another in readiness for blow moulding to form a finished container. At least one of the part-preforms is stretched in the axial direction to provide crystallinity by monoaxial orientation. The part-preforms are singly or jointly provided with barrier layers. Different plastic materials can be used for the part-preforms as well as reprocessed plastic for one of the part-preforms. Through suitable selection of the material of the part-preforms as well as of the material of the barrier layers, it is possible to mould containers suitable for a great variety of different fields of application.

  • Patent number: 4333904
Abstract: A process for forming a mouthpiece on a preform formed from a tubular blank consisting of thermoplastic material, which is intended for the production of a container, e.g. by blow molding, whereby connecting means, such as a thread, which is adapted to a suitable form of closure of the container is formed on the outside of the mouthpiece. The process comprises inserting the blank between an outer mold section with a mold portion for the attachment surface of the connecting means and an inner mold section, whereupon a driven relative axial movement of the two mold sections relative to each other forces the material of the blank, in tightly enclosed manner, radially outwards into the mold portion for the attachment surface, and an axial head cup is provided.

  • Patent number: 4132638
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a process for the aerobic, thermophilic degradation, in the liquid phase, of microbially degradable substances. In the process, the particle size of the substance is reduced before the treatment to be at most 50 mm, and the substance is mixed with a liquid to a dry content of at most 15% by weight. The pH of the resultant slurry is adjusted to at most 12. Enzyme is added to promote degradation prior to preheating. The slurry is then pre-heated and thereafter subjected to a continuous, aerobic, substantially thermophilic degradation treatment in the presence of air for at most 10 days. The temperature of the slurry is regulated to from 40 to 80.degree. C. Finally, active sludge from the treatment is utilized for inoculating untreated slurry and ready-treated slurry is dewatered and possibly enriched with nutrient.
