Patent number: 5950667Abstract: An apparatus detects an opening in a fluid flow passageway such as occurs when a resistance welding cap which is cooled by the fluid flow becomes accidently detached from a welding machine. Upon detection of an opening, an air-actuated pinch lever is activated to quickly pinch shut flexible fluid inlet and outlet hoses and thereby shut off the fluid flow. Inlet and outlet flow rate sensors provide periodic outputs to a digital computer which determines directions of inlet and outlet flow acceleration. If either the inlet or outlet acceleration changes direction, a baseline inlet or outlet flow rate is set equal to the corresponding current flow rate value to prevent erroneous opening detection due to normal flow fluctuations. If the inlet and outlet accelerations are in the same direction, the baseline values are similarly updated. If the inlet acceleration is positive and the outlet acceleration is negative, it indicates a probable opening.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1998Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: Proteus Industries, Inc.Inventors: Mark R. Patent number: 5947720Abstract: Portable-to-site apparatus is operative to produce ready-to-lay traffic-wear surfacing and/or road etc course materials. A drum-like container is supported for axial rotation within insulation walling of a heating chamber allowing front access to one end closure of the rotatable container and affording operative association with heating means for raising temperature of contents of the container by heat transfer through side walling of the container. Normal operation is with the container sealed and under appropriate control as to time, heating, even rotation. The container is frame-mounted for tilting to aid loading and/or unloading.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1997Date of Patent: September 7, 1999Assignee: Proteus Equipment LimitedInventor: Michael Francis Kelly

Patent number: 5901748Abstract: A selector valve includes an annular body having a sealing surface having a plurality of inlet ports. The sealing head carries a seal member which is urged by a spring against the sealing surface. The sealing member has a sealing face comprising a central band and lateral areas above and below the central band. The lateral areas are reduced in size compared to the area of the central band to equalize wear of the sealing member.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1995Date of Patent: May 11, 1999Assignee: Proteus Developments LimitedInventor: Adrian Jessop

Patent number: 5897863Abstract: An analogue of lutenising hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) having the amino acid sequence: pGlg-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-X-Len-Arg-Pro-Gly-Y-Zwherein X represents Gly or a D-amino acid, Y represents one or more amino acid residues, which may be the same or different, and Z represents Cys or Tyr, such that the solution conformation of said analogue is substantially similar to that of native LHRH. The analogues may be used to prepare vaccines for reducing fertility in mammals.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Assignee: Proteus Molecular Design LimitedInventors: Barry Robson, Robert V. Patent number: 5876721Abstract: Vesicles comprising at least one non-ionic surfactant and at least one molecule having the ability to transport or facilitate the transport of fats, fatty acids and lipids across mucosal membranes. With entrapped antigen they can act as immunological adjuvants. Vaccines based therein are active orally as well as by conventional administration routes and are simulators of antibody production via the Th 1 T lymphocyte partway.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1996Date of Patent: March 2, 1999Assignees: Proteus Molecular Design Limited, The University of StrathclydeInventors: James Alexander, James MacDonald Brewer

Patent number: 5744946Abstract: The printed circuit board fault injector circuit uses an automated fixture to enable a robot arm mechanism to position a probe at a designated test node on the printed circuit board under test and apply a fault signal thereto. The test apparatus ensures that the designated node is in contact with the fault injector probe and controllably applies a voltage and/or current signal of selected magnitude to the test node to typically create a stuck-at-one or a stuck-at-zero fault or any other definable condition. The fault injector probe produces a stuck-at-zero fault that is not subject to spurious high frequency harmonics by extending the dynamic range of the fault injector circuit to apply a negative voltage to the test node to rob the output stage of the logic circuit that drives the test node of all drive current, thereby forcing a solid stuck-at-zero condition.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1996Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Proteus CorporationInventor: Brian Keith Lucas

Patent number: 5679355Abstract: Non-ionic surfactant vesicles (NSIV) with entrapped antigen act as potent immunological adjuvants and can produce antibody titers of the same order of magnitude as those using Freund's Complete Adjuvant. The invention provides vaccines comprising such vesicles. Preferably non-ionic surfactants are glycerol esters particularly 1-monopalmitoyl glycerol. The vesicles may be administered by injection or via the mucosal route, oral administration being preferred.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1995Date of Patent: October 21, 1997Assignee: Proteus Molecular Design LimitedInventors: James Alexander, James MacDonald Brewer

Patent number: 5558393Abstract: A circular multi-wave composite compression spring is formed from a carbon fiber reinforced laminate. The circular compression spring is comprised of unidirectional graphite fibers encased in a polymeric resin of generally rectangular cross-section such that adjacent crests and troughs of the waves in adjacent turns of the spring contact each other along a radial line generally extending from the longitudinal axis of the spring. The line contact provides for increased fatigue life and more stable loading of the spring under compression. The carbon fiber reinforced laminate provides comparable strength characteristics similarly configured springs fabricated from conventional materials while providing significantly reduced weight. Furthermore, the composite spring offers increased performance parameters such as increased linearity response over a wider spring deflection range and with insignificant hysteresis.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1995Date of Patent: September 24, 1996Assignee: Proteus Engineering, Inc.Inventors: James T. Patent number: 4296672Abstract: A piston-cylinder combination having a piston arranged for reciprocating movement within a cylinder under fluid pressure, the fluid pressure being ultimately delivered to the sides of the piston with a connector rod from the piston controlling the movement of valves for the delivery of fluid to the piston. The fluid valves are alternatively exposed to fluid under pressure to insure proper opening and closure thereof. The valving combination from the alternate sides of the piston eliminates chattering or floating of the piston, particularly when the piston is under a "no load" condition.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1979Date of Patent: October 27, 1981Assignee: Proteus CorporationInventor: Harold G.
