Abstract: A lighting system and protection means are disclosed. In particular, a Zener diode with pre-selected characteristics is used in parallel with an LED such that current will continue to flow through the circuit in case of LED failure. This adaptation in turn may be used in a series string combination.
Abstract: A low THD lighting system is disclosed. The lighting system includes a first lighting module and a second lighting module connected parallel to the first lighting module. During each AC cycle the first lighting module conducts current for a first portion of the cycle and the second lighting module conducts current for a second portion of the cycle. When combined, the total current drawn from the power source substantially tracks the shape of the applied AC voltage. Accordingly, there is minimal distortion, and low total harmonic distortion level is achieved.
Abstract: A display case having end jamb lighting module and a center mullion lighting module is disclosed. The lighting modules include a shell and at least one substrate whereon lighting elements are mounted. The shell defines engagement slots used to affix the substrate to the shell. The shell defines an aperture allowing light from the lighting elements to be projected out. The lighting module may include a second substrate upon which electrical components are mounted, the electrical components for conditioning input power for the lighting elements. A reflective portion of the shell or a separate reflector mounted on the shell operates on the light to form a desired spatial distribution of light. An optical cover covers the aperture. The center mullion lighting module can include a third substrate for mounting of lighting elements. Alternatively, the center mullion lighting module can be formed by combining two end jamb lighting modules.
Abstract: An integrated and modular lighting system is disclosed. The lighting system includes a plurality of modules, each module including at least two echelons of light emitting diodes and a power supply on a common substrate. The modular lighting system is used to provide uniform illumination of an enclosed display stand.

Abstract: A shut-down circuit configured for use with an electronic ballast coupled to a lamp in a control path includes a device for sensing the electrical energy associated with the control path, and a sensing circuit for shutting down the ballast in the event that the energy does not conform to a predetermined condition. The sensed energy may be current indicative of lamp installation or short circuit, or voltage indicative of arcing or open circuit. The device for sensing the electrical energy associated with the control path may be an isolation transformer, or alternative devices such as optical isolators may be employed. The circuitry may further include electronic componentry to disable the sensing circuit during initial energization of the lamp.

Abstract: A geometrically-shaped bag for lifting and positioning objects has a layer of fluid impermeable, non-porous material forming an expandable bladder having opposite ends and a first layer of wound strands enclosing the expandable bladder. A method of manufacturing the bag comprises the steps of providing a geometrically-shaped mold member having an axis of rotation extending through opposite ends of the mold member, coating the mold member with fluid impermeable, non-porous material to form an expandable bladder having opposite ends, winding a first layer of strands onto the mold member over the expandable bladder, and removing the mold member from the expandable bag.
