  • Patent number: 6202745
Abstract: Wellhead apparatus is shown to comprise a casing hanger releasably latched to a running tool for lowering, landing and locking within the bore of a housing so as to suspend an inner casing which is suspended from the hanger within an outer casing string to which the housing is connected. The hanger includes a mandrel carrying a lock ring for locking in a recess in the housing bore, and a seal sleeve is carried by the mandrel for movement between an upper position to permit cement to be circulated through a space between the mandrel and a lower position closing the space. The tool includes a body carrying a latch ring which is held within a groove in the bore of the mandrel as the hanger is lowered and locked within the housing bore, and which may be actuated to lower the sleeve into sealed position and release the latch ring for retrieval of the tool, from the hanger within the well bore.

  • Patent number: 6125874
Abstract: There are disclosed three embodiments of a gate valve having a fail safe actuator which is especially useful in a subsea environment at considerably depth below water surface. The gate is urged to open position by control pressure and is moved to closed position, upon loss of a controlled condition, by means of a spring acting between the actuator and the stem. In one embodiment, when the body pressure is low, a floating ring sealably shiftable within an annular space between the stem and actuator is urged by body pressure into a position to engage a stop on the stem, and thus provide a force urging it in a direction to close the gate, when body pressure is below ambient, and by ambient pressure to a position to engage a stop on the actuator when body pressure is above ambient.

  • Patent number: 6056324
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed to complete a threaded connection between two connector members by relative rotation between the connectors, utilizing fluid pressure between them to overcome radial load resistance during make up by rotation, and thereafter to produce axial and radial loading in the completed connection, but without otherwise applying longitudinal forces to drive the two connectors together to make up the threaded connection. In a disclosed embodiment, a pin connector has a tapered neck with external threads, and a box connector has a collar with a tapered interior, featuring tapered threads. The pin neck is received within the box collar, and the two sets of threads are made up by relative rotation between the pin and box. When a stall position is reached due to radial resistance forces, two combinations of bump and ramp seals provide a sealed zone between the sets of threads.

  • Patent number: 6050338
Abstract: Subsea wellhead apparatus is disclosed in which a hanger is adapted to be lowered into and landed in a predetermined orientational and longitudinal position within the bore of a wellhead housing installed on a subsea well in order to suspend a tubing string within the well bore. The hanger has a passageway with one adapted to connect with a tube extending downwardly into the well bore for connection with an operator for a subsurface safety valve in the tubing string, and another end which connects with the outer side of the hanger opposite the bore of the housing. The housing has a passageway therethrough with one end in general alignment with the other end of the passageway in the hanger to form a continuation thereof when the hanger is landed in the housing. A body on the outer side of the housing has passageway means with one end in general alignment with the other end of the housing passageway and another end for connection with a control line external to the housing.

Abstract: There are disclosed a wellhead system and a method for use in drilling a subsea well from a jackup platform which includes a wellhead housing which is installed on a surface casing of a subsea well. A first riser having a connector on its lower end is lowered over the upper end of the housing as the connector to land on the housing, and a second riser is lowered through the first riser and connector over and onto the upper end of the wellhead housing to form an upward continuation of the bore of the housing. The connector has locking parts which are movable between outer unlocking position to permit the second riser to be lowered onto and raised from the wellhead housing, and inner positions for locking engagement with the upper end of the housing and lower end of the second riser. A casing hanger is lowered through the second hanger and into landed position within the housing bore for suspending an inner casing string within the surface casing.

  • Patent number: 5499720
Abstract: A multiple hydrocyclone assembly includes a closed tubular vertical housing enclosing two concentric vertical cylinders which cooperate with the housing to define an inner cylindrical outlet chamber and concentric annular inlet and outer outlet chambers. Multiple hydrocyclones or cyclonettes are mounted in axially extending vertical rows and in corresponding radial positions in the cylinders from the outer surface the outer cylinder, and the housing and concentric cylinders are formed in sections which are coupled together in end to end relation. Individual cyclonettes can be removed and replaced after removal of one or more of the housing sections. In order to increase the pressure of the feed stock to be cleaned which is supplied to the cyclonettes in the upper portion or sections of the assembly, vertically extending flow channels are provided in the lower portion of the inlet chamber by omitting cyclonettes from the rows in the lower sections of the assembly.
