Abstract: Methods and systems for facilitating movement of articles in freight are disclosed. One method comprises reading an article marker comprising article data identifying the article; transmitting the article data to a computing device in electrical communication with a database comprising one or more shipping rules related to the article; associating the article with the one or more shipping rules; reading a second location marker comprising second location data identifying the second location; transmitting the second location data to the computing device; determining whether movement of the article to the second location is consistent with the one or more shipping rules; transmitting a message from the computing device to an annunciator indicating whether movement of the article is consistent with the one or more shipping rules; and setting a state of the annunciator, based on the message.

  • Patent number: 7769644
Abstract: The present invention automates the process of receiving transportation documentation and producing advance loading manifests therefrom to optimize load planning and dynamic product shipment and delivery control. Methods provide for receipt of the transportation documentation, initial preparation, and transmission of the documentation from on board a vehicle or while the vehicle is in transit. A remote processor receives the documentation, stores the documentation and feeds the documentation to a load planning software for generation of advance loading manifests from the remote processor and receive them on demand. Further, a mobile data transmission device is provided for use by a driver to communicate transportation documentation, and vehicle information to the remote processor, and, in some applications, can receive instructions for en route alterations of package pickup or delivery. The documentation can reside on a server remotely accessible by customers.

  • Publication number: 20090045924
Abstract: Methods and systems for remotely monitoring trailer or trailers attached to a vehicle is provided. The method includes associating an identification tag or ABS ECU that is configured to broadcast a trailer identification signal with a trailer. The method further includes receiving the trailer identification signal on-board the vehicle, associating the trailer identification signal with the vehicle, transmitting the trailer identification signal to a remote processor and receiving the trailer identification signal at the remote processor. The system comprises a mobile data terminal capable of generating and responding to telematic events comprising at least one processor, a graphical user interface, an input device, a memory and a set of executable instructions which may include a plurality of modules, such as a vehicle location module capable of receiving a GPS signal and transmitting the GPS signal to a remote processor for determining a location of a transportation unit.
