Patents Assigned to RAB Lighting, Inc.
  • Patent number: 10274159
Abstract: Lenses and methods for directing light toward a side of light fixture, and methods for manufacturing the same, are disclosed. Embodiments include lenses with an optical axis and a first (e.g., upper) portion that is rotationally symmetric about the optical axis and a second (e.g., lower) portion that is rotationally asymmetric. The first/upper portion can include a cavity that receives an LED and directs light toward the second/lower portion. The asymmetric side can include a convex surface where the light exits the lens, the convex surface extending across the optical axis. Additional embodiments include a planar surface adjacent the convex surface, where the height of the lens decreases along the portion of the convex surface near the planar surface and along the planar surface as the distance from the optical axis increases. In further embodiments, the maximum height of the lens occurs between two horizontal sides of the lens.

  • Patent number: 10219356
Abstract: Wireless lighting control systems and methods for controlling the illumination of one or more light fixtures are disclosed, including self-commissioning of hardware. Embodiments include a server connected to a wide area network and having software for configuring, monitoring, and controlling lighting fixtures at a site. The control system also includes a wireless gateway at the site initiating communication with the server via a cellular network. Wireless devices initiate communication with the wireless gateway via a mesh network and each wireless device can be wired to control at least one lighting fixture. Once hardware of the site system (e.g., a gateway and/or any device) is mounted or positioned in the appropriate location and powered on, the hardware will self-commission by automatically initiating communications. The gateway will initiate communication and identify itself to server system.

  • Patent number: 10182481
Abstract: An illustrative bi-level dimming controller for coupling to a dimming control input of a lighting driver includes a dimming preset selector for setting a preset dim level, and a dimming control circuit having variable impedance and providing a constant dimming voltage output for a preset dim level, even if the current supplied to or impedance coupled to the dimming controller changes. The dimming control circuit is responsive to the preset dim level to drive a dimming voltage output proportional to the preset dim level. The dimming controller may also include a dim enable circuit responsive to a detection signal to selectively couple and uncouple the dimming signal output with the dimming control input of the lighting driver, thereby providing switching between a preset dim level and a full light level. The detection signal may be electrically isolated from the dimming voltage output.

  • Patent number: 10054293
Abstract: A light fixture includes a housing enclosing a light source. The housing defines an opening therethrough. A plug, which is receivable within the opening, includes a face having a central knockout portion. A perimeter of the knockout portion defines an opening size smaller than an opening size of the opening. According to alternative configurations, the plug may be removed from the opening or only the knockout portion may be removed from the plug while leaving a remainder of the plug in the opening. As such, different sized openings through the light fixture housing may be provided for installation of various light fixture accessories.

  • Patent number: 10039174
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure decrease conflicts between individual lighting devices in a wireless network when responding to a broadcast/multicast message sent to a group of devices. In some embodiments the devices delay sending their acknowledgment to commands until after a specific time period. Some embodiments limit the number of time delays to one of a predetermined number of time delays, where the number of time delays are assigned by an external source, such as the gateway. Still other embodiments include assigning each device one of a limited number of preset time delays, where the total number of preset time delays are less than the number of devices, for example, ten (10) percent of the number of devices (here some devices will have the same time delays as other devices). Still other embodiments use bitmaps to designating which one or more individual devices the message is intended for.

  • Patent number: 9974150
Abstract: Securing device rejoining for a mesh network of a wireless lighting control system is disclosed. A potential security weakness of a mesh network protocol is that a proprietary link key may be discovered by close, expert examination of a device, potentially facilitating the joining of a “rogue” device to the network. Requiring subsequent rejoins of any device that had previously joined the network to use a current randomly generated link key, rather than the proprietary link key, prevents rogue devices only having the proprietary link key from joining.

  • Patent number: 9883567
Abstract: A wireless device control system includes a remote server connected to a wide area network and having control software for configuring, monitoring, and controlling devices at a site. The wireless device control system also includes a wireless gateway located at the site and configured to communicate with the remote server via cellular communication. Control devices are in wireless communication with the wireless gateway via a mesh network, with each of the control devices being wired to control one of the site devices. A computer device is connected to the wide area network and has an interface enabling a user to access the server control software. Control instructions entered on the remote server through the interface are communicated from the remote server to the wireless gateway and then from the wireless gateway to the control devices.

  • Patent number: 9732951
Abstract: A modular light fixture includes an elongate light fixture base having a longitudinal axis and a plurality of light fixture modules. Each light fixture module includes a housing having an open face, and a light emitting device positioned inside the housing. The modular light fixture also includes a light emitting device driver configured for driving the light emitting devices. The light fixture modules are independently mounted to the light fixture base and extend perpendicularly from opposing sides of the light fixture base with the open faces facing a common direction to produce an initial light distribution pattern. Each light fixture module has a housing adjustment feature for independently pivoting the light fixture module about a pivot axis parallel to the longitudinal axis to modify the initial light distribution pattern. The modular light fixture includes a planar configuration in which the light fixture module housings are oriented along a common plane.
