  • Patent number: 7665655
Abstract: An apparatus for presenting each of a first face and a second face of a document to a processing element to facilitate processing of the document thereby. The apparatus includes a first transport subassembly for moving the document along a first document path to present the first face of the document to the processing element. The apparatus also includes a gate adapted to permit movement of the document from the first document path to the second document path. In addition, the apparatus has a second transport subassembly for moving the document in the second document path in a reverse direction until the document engages a downstream side of the gate. The gate directs the document, upon engagement thereof with the downstream side, into the first document path with the second face of the document positioned for presentation to the processing element.

  • Patent number: 7606762
Abstract: A system and method for providing one or more client systems for communicating with a host system over a network. The client systems use a scanner to convert a paper form of a check, coupon, or other paper document to a digital representation and then the client systems send the digital representation over a network to the host system for storage. The host system archives the digital representation and determines the appropriate processing stream for a transaction related to the paper document (e.g. coupon, check), via a decisioning engine, based on a set of predefined stream selection rules. The host system then communicates the transaction to a back end transaction destination, according to the selected processing stream. Examples of the transaction destination can include ACH, Reproduce Paper, and Remittance.

  • Patent number: 7182249
Abstract: An apparatus for obtaining data from a document at point of presentment. The document has a predetermined width, and the apparatus has a frame, a drive mechanism mounted on the frame, and sensors. The drive mechanism is adapted to move the document along a document path in the apparatus between a home position, at which the document is inserted into the apparatus, and an exit position, at which the document is removable from the apparatus. The drive mechanism includes a roller rotatable about a roller axis for engaging a contact portion of the document extending along the width thereof. The roller has a substantially smooth surface for supporting the contact portion. The sensors are for obtaining document data from the contact portion of the document.

  • Patent number: 6951994
Abstract: A system for shaping an optical fiber with various geometries while minimizing unwanted artifacts in the core of the optical fiber. The system facilitates control of sag in the region of the core that is exposed to a beam of optical energy. The sag is reduced, if not eliminated, by maintaining the cross-sectional area of the core that is exposed to the beam at thermal equilibrium.

  • Publication number: 20050018896
Abstract: A method for verifying legibility of an image of a check captured in digital image data, the check having two groups of characters on a front side thereof. Each group includes characters which are numeric representations. The characters in one group have a predetermined relationship to the characters in another group. Each said group is spaced apart from each other and located in a preselected pattern. The method includes the steps of extracting images of each said group from the digital image data, recognizing the images to provide image values of the characters, performing operations on certain image values for one group in accordance with the relationship to provide calculated values, and comparing the image values for another group with the calculated values. If the image and calculated values are not identical, a warning signal is generated.
