Abstract: Complexes of .beta.-cyclodextrin with various salts of ibuprofen are described in which the molar ratios of ibuprofen to .beta.-cyclodextrin are within the range of from 1:0.20 to 1:0.75. The preferred salt of ibuprofen is the sodium salt. The complexes have enhanced taste profile and bioavailability. Also disclosed are methods for preparing the complexes and also pharmaceutical compositions thereof.
Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition in sublingual unit dosage form for maintenance treatment of opiate addicts comprising from 2 to 8 mg buprenorphine and an amount of naltrexone sufficient to substantially attenuate the euphorigenic effect of the buprenorphine when injected and to provide greater opiate blocking effect than that of naltrexone alone.
Abstract: A compound of the formula: ##STR1## A process for its preparation and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier. The compound exhibits analgesic activity.
Abstract: A device for dispensing a volatile liquid as a vapor includes a porous support of natural or synthetic woven or non-woven fibre, porous glasses, porous plastics (optionally in film form), parchment, leather or rubber provided with an organopolysiloxane material which serves to close the pores of the support to the passage of liquid but permits the passage of vapour from the liquid. The volatile liquid is a perfume, insecticide, insect repellant, insect attractant, higher animal repellant, corrosion inhibitor, a germicidal agent or a medicament. A space treatment vapor emanating device is thus provided the external surface of which device is dry to the touch.
Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions in the form of a buccal tablet comprising etorphine or a salt thereof, at least one monosaccharide, disaccharide or a mixture thereof, and a mixture of xanthan gum and locust bean gum in a weight ratio 3:1 to 1:1, wherein the total weight of the mono- and/or di-saccharides relative to the combined weight of the xanthan and locust bean gums is in the ratio of 20:1 to 3:1. The tablet affords improved bioavailability.
Abstract: 2-[2-(1,4-Benzodioxanyl)]-2-imidazoline or a non-toxic salt thereof, substantially free of 2-[2-(2-methyl-1,3-benzodioxyl)]- 2-imidazoline or a non-toxic salt thereof.2-[2-(1,4-Benzodioxanyl)]-2-imidazoline or a non-toxic salt thereof characterised in that the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of the compound in a protonated form exhibits multiplets in the region of .tau.4.4 and .tau.5.4.Process for the preparation of 2-[2-(1,4-benzodioxanyl)]-2-imidazoline, pharmaceutical compositions thereof or of its salts, and their use as presynaptic .alpha..sub.2 -adrenoreceptor antagonists.
Abstract: A method for the treatment of textiles surfaces has the steps:(i) a solids treatment material including a swollen hydrogel containing aqueous treatment fluid is applied to a surface,(ii) force is then applied to release the treatment fluids from the hydrogel,(iii) the textile is allowed to dry and(iv) visible residues are removed from the surface. The hydrogel is a hydrophilic homopolymer or copolymer of acrylic or methacrylic acid or salt/ester thereof; a homopolymer or copolymer of acrylonitrile; a cellulose ether, carboxylated cellulose derivative polyalkylene oxide or polyurethane optionally cross-linked with polysaccharide. The treatment fluid is for cleansing, insect-proofing, fragrancing or antibacterial/antifungal purposes.

Abstract: Thiadiazole guanidines of formula 1 ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl and their non-toxic salts. Processes for their preparation and pharmaceutical compositions thereof. The compounds exhibit anti-convulsant activity and are indicated for use in the treatment of epilepsy.
Abstract: 2-Aminomethyl-5-(2-biphenylyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole and is non-toxic salts.Processes for the preparation and pharmaceutical compositions thereof. The compound exhibits anticonvulsant activity and is indicated for the use in the treatment of epilepsy.
Abstract: New dynamic air freshener unit comprises a porous synthetic polymer support impregnated with a fragrance. The synthetic polymer support is one produced by:(a) bonding together small particles of solid polymer;(b) coagulating polymer solutions in a non-solvent for the polymer; or(c) expanding a thermoplastic or thermosetting plastic by means of a blowing agent; to form a porous body. The unit is especially useful in vacuum cleaners.
Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions in the form of a buccal tablet comprise a phenothiazine derivative, at least one monosaccharide or disaccharide or a mixture thereof, and a mixture of xanthan gum and locust bean gum in a weight ratio of 3:1 to 1:1. A particular buccal tablet containing prochlorperazine maleate affords improved bioavailability.
Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions comprising mixtures of a histamine H.sub.2 -receptor antagonist such as cimetidine or ranitidine and sodium polyacrylate in a specified range of ratios have been found to exhibit synergistic effects in an in vivo test model for anti-ulcer or mucosal-protecting agents. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising mixtures of a histamine H.sub.2 -receptor antagonist such as cimetidine or ranitidine and sodium polyacrylate in the range of ratios are described for use in the treatment of gastritis or of gastro-duodenal ulcers. In a modification in the mixtures the sodium polyacrylate may be replaced wholly or in part by potassium or ammonium polyacrylate.
