  • Patent number: 4320781
Abstract: A first member of a magnetic housing has a core with a central passage and contains an electrical coil, and a second member of the housing has a ball cavity which receives and guides a magnetic ball. A central conduit and peripheral conduits enter the cavity of the second member. When the coil is activated, the magnetic field created thereby moves the ball into contact with the core to close the central passage in the first member, leaving the central and peripheral conduits in communication with each other. When the coil is deactivated, fluid pressure moves the ball to a position where it closes the central conduit so the central passage and the peripheral conduits will be in communication.

  • Patent number: 4321580
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the angular position of a point in rotational motion which includes a disk coupled to rotate with the rotating part. The disk includes a plurality of alternating teeth and spaces located about its periphery. At least one of the teeth has been removed to form an absolute or reference mark. A transducer is located adjacent to the disk to produce an electrical signal representative of the passage of teeth and spaces past the transducer. The electrical signal is processed to produce one or more output signals representative of the instantaneous angular position of the rotating part. Accurate results are produced even when large variations in instantaneous speed of the rotating part occur.

  • Patent number: 4317533
Abstract: A spare tire cradle locking arrangement in which a lock housing is mounted under the floor of an automobile trunk and the cradle is mounted to pivot into a position where it is retained and locked by a cradle retaining catch and a safety catch of the lock. A manual pull-knob located in the trunk causes simultaneous and automatic release of the safety catch and the retaining catch with the object of unlocking the cradle holding the spare tire, while reraising the cradle causes the automatic locking of the cradle by the catches.

  • Patent number: 4316599
Abstract: An electromagnetically controlled hydraulic servo-control valve includes a hydraulic slide activated by an electromagnet with a plunger. The distributed pressure hydraulically pushes the slide and the plunger toward each other. Constrictions in the hydraulic conduits attenuate oscillations. The plunger and the slide have slightly different cross-sections to provide a control loop for the distributed pressure, affecting the position of the side. Use of a polarized electromagnetic supplied by a current that ranges from a negative value to a positive value doubles the regulating capacity. To prevent hysteresis of the pressure curves, as a function of the current, the electro-magnet can be supplied by a pulsed current or an alternating current with a continuous component. The servo-control valve might be used in connection with an automatic gear box control.

  • Patent number: 4312197
Abstract: A device comprising a lock with a rotating knob and incorporated bolt, capable of being blocked by the release of the rotating-knob unlocking control. The release results from the shifting of a blocking lever 13, 113 of the plate of the lock. The lever is operated by either a remote-controlled driving organ, or directly by the cylinder bolt. The blocking lever can, in addition, be inhibited by a locking lever 55, 155 operated from inside the trunk so as to neutralize the remote control.

  • Patent number: 4308763
Abstract: A longitudinally mounted drive train for an automotive vehicle usable with either a manual transmission or an automatic transmission. A housing encloses a clutch in the manual drive train or a torque converter in the automatic drive train. The housing is fastened, in the manual drive train, directly onto the housing of the manual transmission or, in the automatic drive train, by means of a bearing support housing to the housing of the automatic transmission. The housing can be formed of two parts. In both drive trains a shaft having a differential bevel pinion can be provided to couple the transmission to a differential to permit front wheel drive or four wheel drive. The use of common components for the manual drive train and for the automatic drive train results in greatly reduced production costs and lower parts inventory.
