  • Patent number: 4137876
Abstract: An anti-pollution system for internal combustion engines, in particular for avoiding the emission of unburned fuel during changes of motor speed in deceleration. A pneumatic capsule acts to open the throttle under the action of the vacuum in the induction pipe by the intermediary of a spring-loaded valve set to open at a given level of vacuum. The capsule has a diaphragm which tends to close the throttle of the carburetor under the action of an elastic member over its entire return travel and under the additional action of a second elastic means of return, called a compensator spring, over a part of the return travel, from the position of maximum opening of the throttle under the action of the diaphragm, when the compensator spring is compressed against an adjustable stop under the action of the vacuum.

  • Patent number: 4134416
Abstract: A safety device for blocking a fuel line leading from an automobile gas tank having an outer elongate sleeve passing through the wall of the gas tank and having a lateral hole therein opening into the gas tank, and a tubular assembly slidable within the sleeve. The tubular assembly features a lateral opening which, at a given position of the assembly within the sleeve, opens through the lateral opening in the sleeve into the gas tank. The tubular assembly has a stop at one end limiting its movement toward the outside of the gas tank by engagement with the sleeve and has a peripheral constriction at one point for breaking during a violent collision, whereby the openings in the sleeve and the tubular assembly are not aligned and fuel cannot escape from the gas tank during such collisions.

  • Patent number: 4127159
Abstract: A tip for a pipe of the type used in foundries for the fabrication of molds and sand cores by sand blasting in an appropriate foundry installation is made of plastic material and has its exterior portion in the form of an essentially cylindrical part on the side connected to the blast pipe and of a coupling cone in one of the filling holes of the core molds on the other side of his pipe. It is distinguished by the fact that this coupling cone is connected to the essentially cylindrical external portion by an elastically supported essentially circular shoulder on the upper wall of the core mold, thus achieving a tight fit by exerting a horizontal thrust on the core mold. Application to mass production of sand cores by blasting, particularly by means of rigid metal blast pipes, is attained through this invention.

  • Patent number: 4116678
Abstract: In a method of producing iron by direct reduction of the ore, compaction into agglomerates and fusion, where the ore is reduced by a gaseous process with pre-reduction to monoxide FeO at 1000.degree. C, followed by a final reduction at 700.degree.C. The resultant powder is compacted into agglomerates and dumped, in successive loads after each pour, into an induction melting furnace and melted by contact and mixing with a preexistent charge of liquid metal. An amount equivalent to the newly-melted charge is poured into a refining ladle, after skimming off the slag.

  • Patent number: 4114715
Abstract: Pipes undergoing torsion stresses at one fixed extremity, the other extremity being flexibly supported, and in particular, exhaust pipes for motor vehicles. The concentration of stresses at the fixed end are eliminated and distributed in the center of the pipe by reinforcing its moment of inertia and its rigidity at the fixed extremity, and by creating a series of localized zones with a reduced moment of inertia in the center area, where the stresses undergone by the pipe at its fixed end are distributed in limited fashion. The invention is especially applicable to the exhaust pipes of internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 4113000
Abstract: A combination device permitting filtering of an air-sand mixture or an air-metal liquid mixture at the moment of filling a foundry mold, as well as ejection of the molded part, wherein a filtering element, composed of a spiral spring with spaces between its turns, is mounted and centered in the mold. This filtering element centers and guides an ejector, driven by an ejection striker plate. In the process of ejection, the elongation of the spring widens the spaces between its turns, thus freeing bits of sand or metal caught between the turns, to provide self-cleaning. The device can be used in foundries to make mold cores and to mold light-alloy parts by gravity or low pressure in metal molds.

  • Patent number: 4109669
Abstract: An electronic fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine wherein the amount of fuel injected is metered according to variations in the injection pressure. Mechanical injectors having a preset opening pressure are fed from a distribution chamber which, in turn, is fed by a fuel circuit pressurized by an electronically controlled fuel supply flow. The fuel supply flow is the difference between the flow through an inlet injector receiving fuel under pressure and that through an outlet injector regulating the return flow of fuel to the reservoir, these injectors being of the continuous flow electromagnetic type. The fuel supply is frequency controlled by a computer and regulated by a servo loop to assure a constant richness. The preferred embodiment is particularly adaptable to a low priced electronic fuel injection system using mechanical devices whose precision is relatively unimportant.

  • Patent number: 4109623
Abstract: A system for regulating the injection of auxiliary air into the intake of internal combustion engines includes a pressure-regulating stage feeding an intermediate compartment with an intermediate pressure proportional to that in the engine's intake manifold, and an opening-regulating stage through which air flows from the intermediate compartment toward the intake chamber communicating with the manifold. The opening-regulating stage includes a metering valve activated by a membrane which is controlled by a control pressure obtained by joining a compartment on one side of the membrane to intake pressure through a conduit having a metering orifice or choke thereon and also joining the compartment to an intermediate compartment through an electrically-activated valve the opening of which is controlled by a current at the frequency of the engine.
