Abstract: Apparatus and methods for mitigating transverse mode instabilities (TMI) in high power fiber amplifiers that does not depend on active feedback loops. The apparatus and method involve the modulation of the amplitude and/or phase of selected spatial mode components of an input signal beam to increase the TMI threshold of the amplifier. Once the desired modal adjustments are made, the beam is input to a mode multiplexer whereupon an optimized output beam can be input to the active fiber of the amplifier system. By increasing the TMI threshold of the amplifier, the amplifier can be operated at higher power before TMI sets in. A control stage of the fiber amplifier system includes (a) a (seed) beam splitting section; (b) an amplitude and phase control component; and (c) a mode multiplexer that maps multiple individual signal beams to different fiber modes.

Abstract: A system to monitor and control a lyophilization process using a wireless network is disclosed which includes one or more wireless pressure and gas temperature sensors adapted to provide pressure and gas temperature measurements of the ambient environment, a lyophilization chamber, wherein the one or more wireless pressure sensors are distributed in one or more lyophilization vial trays, a vacuum pump, adapted to change the pressure with the lyophilization chamber, a heat exchanger adapted to modify temperature within the lyophilization chamber, and a controller adapted to collect pressure and gas temperature data from the one or more wireless pressure and gas temperature sensors, calculate sublimation rate of a product to be lyophilized using the collected pressure and gas temperature data, and adjust one or both of pressure and temperature within the lyophilization chamber such that the calculated sublimation rate stays within a predetermined envelope.
Abstract: The present invention provides an oil slurry filter, a filter unit including the oil slurry filter, a multiple-filter system including the oil slurry filter, and a multiple-stage filter system including the oil slurry filter. Due to the use of the filter component of flexible texture in the oil slurry filter of the present invention, the problems that the filter material is easily blocked by high-viscosity colloidal impurities, the regeneration efficiency of the filter is poor and the filtration efficiency is low are solved, and it is possible to make the backwash treatment of the filter residue more convenient and improve the regeneration efficiency of the filter. The present invention also provides a filtering process using the oil slurry filter to ensure long-term stable operation of the oil slurry filtering process.

Abstract: A driver monitor system and method for predicting impairment of a user of a vehicle. The system includes video cameras, an input device for inputting a list of medications being taken by the driver. Processing circuitry predicts side effects of the medications based on the half-life of the medication, detecting eye gaze movement, eye lid position, and facial expression of the user using images from the video camera, predicting whether the user is transitioning into an impaired physical state that is a side effect of the medications, verifying the side effect of the medications, determining whether the user is fit to drive using the verified side effects of the medications, and outputting to the vehicle an instruction to operate the vehicle in a level of automation that makes up for the at least one side effect or to perform a safe pull over operation of the vehicle.
