Abstract: A method for loading liquefied nitrogen (LIN) into a cryogenic storage tank initially containing liquid natural gas (LNG) and a vapor space above the LNG. First and second nitrogen gas streams are provided. The first nitrogen stream has a lower temperature than the second nitrogen gas stream. While the LNG is offloaded from the storage tank, the first nitrogen gas stream is injected into the vapor space. The storage tank is then purged by injecting the second nitrogen gas stream into the storage tank to thereby reduce a natural gas content of the vapor space to less than 5 mol %. After purging the storage tank, the storage tank is loaded with LIN.

Abstract: An integrated fiber-ferrule useable as an optical coupling element includes a core directly contacting a cladding layer that has a lower index of refraction than that of the core, without an intervening adhesive. The cladding layer outer diameter is at least 100 times greater than that of the core, and matches an outer diameter of a standard ferrule. The integrated fiber-ferrule may be produced by drawing a glass preform into a cane, cutting the cane into sections, and shaping end faces of the cut sections (e.g., using a laser). To form a fiber optic assembly, a front end of an optical fiber core may be fusion spliced to a rear end of the core of the integrated fiber-ferrule. Use of an integrated fiber-ferrule permits reduction of core to fiber eccentricity, and reduction of connector insertion losses.

Abstract: A scanning-type optical antenna is provided, which includes a housing, a fine-tune mirror, a light signal emitter, a light signal receiver, a scanning light receiver and a rotational mechanism. The housing includes a window. The scanning light receiver disposed on the housing receives an input sector scanning light from a target antenna to generate plural light speckles. The rotational mechanism mounts the housing and adjusts the deflection angle between the housing and the target antenna according to the light speckles. The fine-tune mirror is disposed outside the housing and corresponding to the window. The light signal emitter inside the housing transmits an output signal light to the target antenna after being reflected by the fine-tune mirror through the window. The input signal light of the target antenna is transmitted to the light signal receiver inside the housing after being reflected by the fine-tune mirror and passing through the window.

Abstract: A bit interleaver, a bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) device and a bit interleaving method are disclosed herein. The bit interleaver includes a first memory, a processor, and a second memory. The first memory stores a low-density parity check (LDPC) codeword having a length of 64800 and a code rate of 3/15. The processor generates an interleaved codeword by interleaving the LDPC codeword on a bit group basis. The size of the bit group corresponds to a parallel factor of the LDPC codeword. The second memory provides the interleaved codeword to a modulator for quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) modulation.

Abstract: Systems and methods for treatment of a biological tissues including target tissues and other tissues. The method includes elevating a temperature of the target tissues above a physiological temperature of the biological tissues to treatment temperature, and generating an electric field extending through at least a portion of the target tissues using a pre-defined sequence of short voltage pulses applied between at least two electrodes. In the method, the treatment temperature is maintained during the generating. Further, the pre-defined sequence is selected such that a magnitude of the electric field generated is sufficient to induce electromanipulation in the portion of the target tissues without substantially elevating of the temperature of the portion of the target tissues above the treatment temperature.

Abstract: The present invention relates to small molecule 4-(piperazin-1-yl)quinazolin-2-amino compounds with formula (I) useful for inhibiting signalling by certain toll-like receptors (TLRs), especially TLR9. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are members of the larger family of evolutionarily conserved pattern recognition receptors which are critical first line of defense for self-nonself discrimination by the host immune response. Aberrant TLR9 activation is implicated in autoreactive inflammation in different autoimmune diseases. The invention depicts compounds with formula (I), composition and methods can be used in a number of clinical applications, including as pharmaceutical agents and methods for treating conditions involving unwanted immune activity due to TLR9 activation.
