Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus and method for detecting an optical line fault in a Passive Optical Network (PON). The apparatus includes an optical distribution unit configured to, when a multiplexed signal of a downstream light signal and a monitoring light signal is input, distribute the multiplexed signal to an Optical Network Unit (ONU) of a first optical path and to a second optical path. An optical layer management unit is installed in the second optical path and is configured to set a time at which the monitoring light signal of the multiplexed signal provided to the second optical path is received to a starting time of monitoring light measurement, compare a monitoring light signal reflected and returned from the ONU with a signal pattern obtained when no fault occurs, and then determine whether a fault has occurred in a distribution network.

Abstract: The present invention relates techniques for identifying suitable secretion fusion partner (SFP) for hyper-secretory production of recombinant proteins. The SFPs can be obtained from secretome analyzes. Recombinant proteins are produced in a fusion form with a secretion fusion partner (SFP) and can be separated from the SFP by in vitro protease treatment. SFPs of this invention greatly improve the secretion level of target proteins and peptides which are valuable for bio-pharmaceuticals and the bio-industry.

Abstract: The invention provides methods and materials for decontamination of surfaces and fabrics, such as non-woven fabrics, that are contaminated with infestations of microorganisms such as bacteria. Biocidal oligomers having conjugated oligo-(aryl/heteroaryl ethynyl) structures and comprising at least one cationic group can be used to decontaminate infested surfaces in the presence of oxygen and, optionally, illumination. Fibers incorporating biocidal oligomers having conjugated oligo-(aryl/heteroaryl ethynyl) structures and comprising at least one cationic group, wherein the oligomer is physically associated with or covalently bonded to, or both, the fiber-forming polymer can be used to form non-woven mats. Biocidal non-woven mats prepared by methods of the invention, incorporating the biocidal oligomers, can be used to suppress bacterial growth in wound and surgical dressings and personal hygiene products.

Abstract: A system comprises an electrophotographic subsystem, a transfer subsystem, an imaging member, and an inking subsystem. The electrophotographic subsystem comprises a photoreceptor, a charging subsystem, an exposure subsystem, and a development subsystem. In operation, the photoreceptor is charged areawise. An exposure pattern is formed by the exposure subsystem on the surface of the charged photoreceptor to thereby write a latent charge image onto the photoreceptor surface. The image is developed with an image definition material, such as a dampening fluid. The image definition material forms a positive pattern of the image to be printed. The image pattern is then transferred to the reimageable surface. The transferred pattern is then developed by selectively applying an ink over regions of image definition material. The inked image may be transferred to a substrate.

Abstract: One embodiment provides a system that facilitates an intermediate node to handle a potential timeout event. During operation, the system receives, by an intermediate node, a keep-alive control packet which indicates a name for an Interest message, an indicator to keep alive a Pending Interest Table (PIT) entry, and a time period for which to keep the PIT entry alive. The intermediate node determines whether the keep-alive control packet corresponds to the PIT entry based on the name, and, responsive to determining that the keep-alive control packet corresponds to the PIT entry, updates a timeout value of the PIT entry based on the time period indicated in the keep-alive control packet. Responsive to determining one or more interfaces specified in the PIT entry from which the Interest message is received, the intermediate node forwards the keep-alive control packet to the one or more interfaces.
