Abstract: Method for securing a decoration (1) to an external timepiece element (2) coated with a galvanically deposited metallic layer (3). Instead of the decoration (1), a dummy part (5) is temporarily placed in the hole (4) pierced in the external element (2), and the galvanic deposition (3) is then carried out. After the deposition has been levelled, the dummy part (5) is removed and the decoration is placed in the hole (4).

Abstract: A system and method of testing vision performance includes displaying a visual recognition test to a subject and receiving from the subject a response to the visual recognition test. After receiving the response to the visual recognition test, a subsequent visual recognition test is selected based on the response received from the subject, the subsequent visual recognition test is displayed, and a response is received from the subject. The subsequent visual recognition tests are repeated until a predetermined criterion is reached. Abstract: A fuel cell system is provided, comprising a cell unit capable of gas exhausting. The cell unit comprises an anode current collector and a cathode current collector. A membrane electrode assembly (MEA) is interposed between the anode current collector and the cathode current collector. A frame is formed to surround the MEA, the anode current collector, and the cathode current collector. A hydrophilic gas-blocking layer is disposed adjacent to an anode side of the MEA, underlying the MEA and the frame. A hydrophobic gas-penetrating layer is disposed under the hydrophilic gas-blocking layer. At least one gas exhaust is disposed in the frame, exposing a part of the hydrophilic gas-blocking layer and contacting the area surrounding adjacent to the cell unit for exhausting a gas produced by the MEA from the cell unit.

Abstract: In one example embodiment, a method includes sputtering one or more absorber layers over a substrate. Abstract: An apparatus for examining membrane-bound proteins in a cell can include a chamber with an insulating partition dividing the chamber into an upper well and a lower well, and a pore penetrating the insulating partition. The pore can have a size and shape so as to snugly hold a cell in place therein. The apparatus can further include circuitry for delivering a radio frequency signal to the cell. A belt electrode for delivering electrical signals to the cell can be located within the insulation partition and substantially encircling the pore. A measuring circuit for measuring cell membrane impedance to the radio frequency signal is also provided, and changes in the impedance can signal a change in state of a protein in the cell membrane.
Abstract: Described herein is an IOP control system for implantation in an eye of a patient, comprising a drainage device and a control device. The drainage system includes a housing including an inlet port and an outlet port, a fluid flow passageway extending from the inlet port to the outlet port to allow the flow of fluid therethrough, and at least one valve disposed within the housing. The at least one valve includes a first side and an opposing second side, and is configured to affect flow through the fluid flow passageway from the inlet port to the outlet port by moving in response to pressure differentials acting on the opposing sides. The control device comprises an actuator including an activated mode and a deactivated mode, and the actuator in the activated mode is configured to selectively adjust flow through the drainage device in response to changes in intraocular pressure.

Abstract: A heat exchanger is provided. The heat exchanger comprises an evaporator, a vapor-liquid separator, a liquid level sensor and a controller. The evaporator is used for heating a working fluid up to a vapor-liquid state, and has a working fluid inlet pipe and a working fluid outlet pipe. The vapor-liquid separator is connected to the working fluid outlet pipe for separating the working fluid into a vapor working fluid and a liquid working fluid. The liquid level sensor detects a level of the liquid working fluid inside the vapor-liquid separator and outputs a liquid level signal. The controller receives the liquid level signal and controls the vapor quality of the working fluid inside the evaporator.

Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to methods and apparatus for filling features with copper by a bottom-up fill mechanism without the use of organic plating additives. In some cases, filling occurs directly on a semi-noble metal layer, without the deposition of a copper seed layer. In other cases, the filling occurs on a copper seed layer. Factors such as the polarization of electrolyte, the use of a complexing agent, electrolyte pH, electrolyte temperature, and the waveform used to deposit material may contribute to promoting the bottom-up fill.
Abstract: Methods of mitigating the effects of radiation exposure or providing a radioprotective effect in a subject are provided herein. The methods include administering a therapeutically effective amount of cerium oxide nanoparticles to the subject to mitigate the effects of radiation exposure or to offer a radioprotective effect to the subject. The cerium oxide nanoparticles are suitably less than 20 nm in diameter and have over 50% of the cerium in the 3+ oxidation state.
