Abstract: Methods are described that bias cells, such as potent and multipotent stem cells, by transfection with a nucleic acid sequence, to differentiate to a desired end-stage cell or a cell having characteristics of a desired end-stage cell. In particular embodiments, human neural stem cells are transfected with vectors comprising genes in the homeobox family of transcription factor developmental control genes, and this results in a greater percentage of resultant transformed cells, or their progeny, differentiating into a desired end-stage cell or a cell having characteristics of a desired end-stage cell.

Abstract: A method includes coupling electrodes to a patient's head and identifying whether any of the electrodes form a functional set, such that a desired therapeutic effect is achieved when the two or more electrodes deliver a total amount of current to the patient regardless of what portion of the total amount of current each respective electrode carries. One or more constant current sources are provided, each having a supply and return terminal, which supply and return equal amounts of current at any given time. The constant current source(s) are coupled to the electrodes in such a manner that each supply terminal and each return terminal is coupled to no more than the electrodes of a single one of the functional sets, if any, or to a single one of the electrodes not included in one of the functional sets.

Abstract: Drying a microelectronic topography. At least some of the illustrative embodiments are methods that include placing a microelectronic topography inside a process chamber, providing a non-aqueous liquid to the process chamber until at least 90% of the volume of the process chamber contains the non-aqueous liquid, pressurizing the process chamber by way of a fluid different than the non-aqueous liquid, ceasing activity with respect to the process chamber until the non-aqueous liquid and fluid form a mixture that is substantially homogenous, venting the process chamber while simultaneously providing the fluid to the process chamber, and venting the process chamber in a manner which prevents formation of liquid in the process chamber.
Abstract: The invention relates to therapy and methods of applying the therapy to cancer patients. The invention includes introducing intratumorally cytotoxic T lymphocyte and/or NKT cells, and prior to, coincident with, or following introducing intratumorally the cytotoxic T lymphocyte and/or NKT cells, introducing intratumorally anti-TNF and/or anti-IL-10 to the patient. The cytotoxic T lymphocyte and/or NKT cells can be induced by the intratumoral introduction of immature dendritic cells to the patient. This therapy of the invention can be effective to regress, reduce or eliminate tumor cells in tumor tissue of the patients in the absence of radiation therapy.

Abstract: A method selectively diffuses dopants into a substrate wafer. The method comprises blanket depositing a doped liquid precursor including dopants on a surface of the substrate wafer to create a doped film on the surface of the substrate wafer, selectively forming a diffusion source in the doped film to selectively diffuse the dopants into the substrate wafer, and heating the doped film on the substrate wafer, wherein said heating the doped film diffuses the dopants from the doped film into the substrate wafer.
Abstract: This specification relates to a charging, securing and monitoring system for hand-held electronic devices such as cell phones, BlackBerry's, PDA's, cameras, or the like and the components therefore. More particularly the teachings herein include a coaxial cable construction that permits securing and charging of said hand-held devices which are on display at a typical retailer. Further the cable may be accumulated on a unique recoiler assembly at one end of the coaxial cable and engages a unique holding device proximate the other end thereof.
Abstract: A system and method are described for capturing and analyzing gamma rays from neutron excitation of a region in 3-space being analyzed for explosives. A processor analyzes the results, determining whether underground explosives are present in a particular region of the ground. In one embodiment, one gamma ray energy band is used to infer an amount of silicon in the region, while another indicates the combined amount of silicon and nitrogen. The concentration of nitrogen in the region is inferred and used to trigger an “explosive found” or a “no explosive found” signal. In other embodiments, the system or method uses inferences about other elemental constituents of the ground being examined, sometimes taking as input analyzes from prior scans, and providing output indicating the likelihood of the presence of explosives in the region.
Abstract: The present application is directed to methods and systems for transporting or importing LNG via vessels. Under the present techniques, SRTs, which are equipped with regasification equipment, LNG offloading equipment (e.g. marinized mechanical loading arms), LNG storage tanks, and equipment to transfer natural gas to an import terminal are utilized as temporary interchangeable FSRUs (TIFs). Two or more TIFs in conjunction with transport vessels (e.g. LNGCs) are utilized to transfer LNG between an export terminal and an import terminal. A first of the TIFs is utilized at an import terminal to offload LNG from LNGCs, while the second of the TIFs is utilized as a LNGC, carrying LNG between the export terminal and import terminal. The first of the TIFs may be replaced by the second of the TIFs to maintain operations for the import terminal.
Abstract: An automated phase noise test measurement system includes a software controlled phase shifter to maintain quadrature so that a carrier may be removed from a signal provided by UUT. In this fashion, the UUT's phase noise may be measured. Based upon the UUT's measured phase noise, controllable variable(s) within the UUT are tuned so as to minimize the measured phase noise.
Abstract: An active voltage drop control-type pulse power generator includes power stages, a power inverter, a power loop, a control inverter, a control loop, and a compensation unit. The power stages include power cells connected in series. Each power cell includes a switch and a capacitor connected in series, a driver for driving the switch, a bypass diode connected to both ends of the switch, and a rectifying diode connected to both ends of the capacitor. The power inverter charges the capacitor via the power loop and the rectifying diode inside each power cell. The control inverter provides a control signal for the switch via the control loop and the driver inside each power cell. The compensation unit is connected to one of the power cells and generates a compensation voltage for compensating for a voltage drop at a load according to a voltage detected in real-time from the power cell.

Abstract: We disclose a method comprising: (a) providing an embryonic stem (ES) cell; and (b) establishing a progenitor cell line from the embryonic stem cell; in which the progenitor cell line is selected based on its ability to self-renew. Preferably, the method selects against somatic cells based on their inability to self-renew. Preferably, the progenitor cell line is derived or established in the absence of co-culture, preferably in the absence of feeder cells, which preferably selects against embryonic stem cells. Optionally, the method comprises (d) deriving a differentiated cell from the progenitor cell line.
