    Abstract: A scroll compressor with a backflow-proof mechanism. The scroll compressor comprises a slider disposed on a scroll couple, forming several enclosed spaces. The slider is raised by the working fluid in the spaces, preventing liquid leakage from a high-pressure chamber to a low-pressure chamber, when the scroll compressor starts. The slider descends when the compression ratio of the scroll compressor is exceeded. Thus, the pressure is released, and the performance of the scroll compressor is improved. The slider of the invention further comprises a floating element to prevent reversal of pressurized fluid and damage to the scroll couple.

    Abstract: A needleless syringe particle delivery system is provided. The needleless syringe has an elongate nozzle that is connected at its upstream end to a sealed chamber. The sealed chamber contains gas at super-atmospheric pressure and particles of a therapeutic agent. Upon release of the gas from the sealed chamber, a flow is formed which entrains the particles and allows the particles to pass through the nozzle at supersonic speed for subsequent delivery to a target surface.

    Abstract: A system and method for achieving optimal display contrast in a mobile communication device is provided. The system includes a memory device, a processor, a display driver, and a display. A user contrast setting is stored in the memory device, wherein the user contrast setting is selected from a range of user contrast settings. The processor includes an operating system that is configured to retrieve the user contrast setting from the memory device, convert the user contrast setting into a hardware contrast setting, and save the hardware contrast setting to a memory location. The display driver retrieves the hardware contrast setting from the memory location and generates a contrast control voltage as a function of the hardware contrast setting. The display is coupled to the contrast control voltage and has a variable contrast ratio, wherein the variable contrast ratio of the display is controlled by the contrast control voltage.

The memory includes a first antiferromagnetic layer, a pinned layer formed on the first antiferromagnetic layer, a tunnel barrier layer formed on the pinned layer, a ferromagnetic free layer formed on the tunnel barrier layer, and a multi-layered metal layer. The multi-layered metal layer is formed by at least one metal layer, where the direction of the anisotropy axis of the antiferromagnetic layer and the ferromagnetic layer and that of the ferromagnetic free layer are arranged orthogonally. The provided memory has the advantage of lowering the switching field of the ferromagnetic layer, and further lowering the writing current.

The apparatus includes: a compensation signal generating unit for generating a first and a second compensation signals based on a digital I-channel and a digital Q-channel signals; a baseband signal generating unit for generating an I-channel and a Q-channel baseband signals by converting a radio frequency signal into a low frequency signal; and a detecting unit for detecting a phase imbalance and an amplitude imbalance between the digital I-channel and the digital Q-channel signals by using a correlation between the first and the second compensation signals with the I-channel and the Q-channel baseband signals.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses methods to reduce dusting in bulk materials, such as coal. The method includes mixing with the bulk material either a fraction of the bulk material having an electrostatic charge opposite that of the remainder of the bulk material or a heterologous charge control agent having an electrostatic charge opposite that of the bulk material. The attractive forces between the opposite electrostatic charges agglomerate dust particles to larger particles that quickly settle to control dusting. Also disclosed are materials produced by the methods described above.

And the mirror is driven by the rod structure acting as a lever that has an elastic body as a rotational axis, when warping is generated by electro-thermal expansion, electromagnetic force or external force. Thereby the mirror can be driven in the larger wavelength tunable range and the low power consumption.

    Abstract: A laser-based refractive surgery system includes a laser source including a laser controller, wherein at least a portion of the incident beam is directed to target eye tissue of a patient. The incident beam portion produces a reflected beam after striking the eye tissue. The system includes at least one detector for detecting the reflected beam. A computer or data processor is communicably coupled to the detector and the laser controller. The computer or data processor generates a cross-correlation function using a plurality of discrete points which digitally represent a waveform representation of the reflected beam and a plurality of reference points. The reference points are preferably associated with a digital representation of the incident beam. The laser controller receives and utilizes the cross-correlation function or parameter derived therefrom, or the ablation rate, and adjusts at least one operating parameter of the laser beam in real-time during a refractive procedure.

The method prepares AuPt-based fuel cell catalysts having a wide range of controllable Au:Pt ratios. The AuPt catalysis are supportable on both carbon black (C) and C/TiO2 support materials. These materials demonstrate electro-catalytic activity towards CO and methanol oxidation, and O2 reduction. The same catalyst material is useful in constructing both anodes and cathodes, and demonstrates bifunctional activity.
