  • Patent number: 7156973
Abstract: This invention relates to increasing the electrocatalytic activity of conducting polymers so that the same may be useful for electro-oxidation of methanol which is important for fuel-cell technology. Conventional catalysts used for this process are based on Pt, Ru or Pd complexes which are incorporated in carbon/graphite based electrodes. However, these are not only expensive but difficult to fabricate in different shapes. Conducting polymer based electrodes have advantage of ease of fabrication but their activity has been found in the past to be not very high. The present invention provides a process for preparation of conducting polymer based electrodes which have very high catalytic activity (8 to 10 times higher) for electro-oxidation of methanol.

  • Patent number: 7157150
Abstract: A method of bonding a stainless steel part to a titanium part by heating a component assembly comprised of the titanium part, the stainless steel part, and a compact titanium-nickel filler material placed between the two parts and heated at a temperature that is less than the melting point of either the stainless steel part or the titanium part. The compact filler material is made of particles, preferably spheres, of discrete layers of nickel and titanium metal that react with each other and with the stainless and titanium parts to form a strong assembly when thermally processed. The component assembly is held in intimate contact at temperature in a non-reactive atmosphere for a sufficient time to develop a hermetic and strong bond between the stainless steel part and the titanium part.

  • Patent number: 7157005
Abstract: The invention provides a method for recycling the waste regenerant from softeners. The method includes passing a high concentration of monovalent ionic halide salt through a resin bed. The high monovalent cation concentration causes the divalent cations on the resin to be exchanged with the monovalent cations by osmotic forces. The regenerant is then treated to precipitate the divalent cations and replace them with monovalent cations.
