  • Patent number: 7085139
Abstract: A mobile communication device includes a printed circuit board (PCB); a radio frequency (RF) transceiver carried on the PCB; and an antenna coupled to the RF transceiver. A surface mountable antenna clip is mounted on the PCB for retaining the antenna. The clip is a metal structure having a plurality of planar sides generally formed into a U-shape. An opening formed by the structure is sized to receive and retain the antenna. One of the planar sides is used to support the structure and is mounted over a solder pad of the PCB. A hole formed through this planar side is configured to break a surface tension of molten solder over a solder pad of the PCB during a reflow soldering process, so that the clip is more stable and tends not to rotate out-of-position during the process. Legs extending from edges of this planar side also help to stabilize the clip during the process, and provide an increased surface area for the connection.

  • Patent number: 7083919
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for screening of a large number of compounds for their ability to modulate the expression of genes. The method uses gene trap technology and comprises the steps of transfecting a population of cells with a gene-trap vector, sorting cells according to their level of fluorescence, distributing sorted cells into pools and expanding the pools to obtain a sufficient number of cells representing each trapped gene to permit distinction of the effect of a test compound over controls, exposing the cells to the test compounds and identifying compounds which alter the fluorescence distribution pattern of cells using FACS analysis.

  • Patent number: 7082980
Abstract: A binding process includes the application of respective parts of a two-part binding adhesive as strips at either side of a page to be bound. Part A of a two-part adhesive is applied to one side of a page and Part B of the two-part adhesive is applied to the reverse side of the page. A stack of pages with the respective parts of the two-part adhesive applied to facing surfaces is then pressed by a binding press so as to combined the two parts of the adhesive which then set.

  • Patent number: 7082828
Abstract: Leakage detection of cargo from the hold of a barge involves a mounting plate to the top hatch of the hold. Two pipes secured to the plate extend to locations near the bottom. Each pipe has a guide tube in it coaxial with the pipe. Each pipe has a float in it received around the guide tube. A float follower is in each tube and magnetically coupled to the float so that the float follower rises and falls with the float. One pipe has an open bottom for cargo to freely move up and down in the pipe as the hold is filled and emptied. The other pipe has a valve at the bottom for admitting cargo from the hold to the pipe at the port of origin of the vessel. Following loading of the cargo, the valve is closed. One embodiment tethers the floats to reels atop the plate. Any change of level of the floats, reflecting a loss of cargo during transit from the port of origin to that of destination, is reflected in relative rotation of the reels and triggering an output signal to an annunciator.

  • Patent number: 7084382
Abstract: A clip on welder includes two pairs of opposed grippers defined by pivotally attached upper and lower frames for latching the welder to heat weldable material, such as a length of tubing, upon actuation of a start button by an operator; thereafter, the welder operates unattended. At least a jaw of a pair of jaws disposed intermediate the two pairs of grippers heats the material compressed and lodged therebetween to form a weld in or across the material. A source of gas, such as air, under pressure selectively connected to a bellows provides the power to pivot the upper and lower frames into gripping engagement with the material. A source of electrical signals provides the power to heat the material intermediate the pair of jaws. One or more thermocouples senses the heat of the jaws and generates signals used to control the application of power and to control cooling. After completion of the weld, cooling air is directed to the jaws until the thermocouple(s) signal(s) indicates a sufficiently low temperature.

  • Publication number: 20060168243
Abstract: A system and method for identifying a single, designated connection from one or more connections (e.g. TCP connections) that may have been established between two components for data communications. Each component is associated with a component identifier that is generated by an identifier generating algorithm adapted to ensure that component identifiers generated by the algorithm are orderable and substantially unique. For example, Universally Unique Identifiers may be generated for this purpose. Each component in the distributed system can be uniquely identified by its component identifier, and the component identifiers facilitate the identification of each component as either a controller or responder in a determination of whether a particular connection should be identified as the designated connection.

  • Publication number: 20060167943
Abstract: System, method and computer program product for rejecting or deferring the playing of a media file retrieved by an automated process. Rejection or deferral of an automatically playing media file is accomplished by a simplified user interface which presumes that a currently playing media file is acceptable unless the user signals the media player within a given timeframe. Signaling of the media player is accomplished using one or more sensors. The sensors include but are not limited to a motion sensor, an inclination sensor, a gesture sensor, a video sensor, a push-button switch and any combination thereof. The rejection or deferral of a media file by the user results in that file not being automatically selected again by the automated processes for at least a predetermined amount of time.

  • Publication number: 20060162495
Abstract: The present invention relates to a nanostructured metal powder and a method of fabricating the same. A twin-wire electric arc process is performed to melt the wire tips, and metal melt is formed. Simultaneously, the metal melt is broken up into melt droplets by an atomizing device. The operating temperature of the electric arc process is controlled between melting point and boiling point of the wire, to avoid vaporization of the melt droplets. Then, a fast cooling is performed to quench the melt droplets. Thus, melt droplets are solidified to ?m-scaled, spherical and dense powders comprising nano-grains (d<100 nm).
