  • Patent number: 4392795
Abstract: A rotor, for a vane-type fluid pump or motor, having upper and lower vane contact edges formed in each slot thereof is disclosed. The upper and lower vane contact edges substantially eliminate wear of the slots by the vanes reciprocating therein, thereby enabling pumps or motors employing the rotor to operate with low viscosity liquids for commercially useful periods of time.

  • Patent number: 4383605
Abstract: A control system for an accumulating conveyor having a plurality of zones wherein each zone has a pneumatic logic module that includes a relay limit valve and one or more OR valves. The output of one OR valve is connected to air actuators which affect driving engagement and disengagement of drive rollers with the load carrying rollers of a zone of the conveyor. A pilot operated relay valve is connected to the discharge zone of the conveyor and employed to release an article thereon. The control system can easily be modified to provide accumulation in either direction, as well as single, sequential or train release in both directions.

  • Patent number: 4375292
Abstract: A face seal assembly for preventing leakage of fluid around a rotating shaft of a machine, including a housing in the form of an annular U-shaped trough open at one end and closed at the other end. An annular seal element fits into the housing and is biased outwardly by a spring toward the open end into engagement with a mating ring. The seal element is held in the housing during assembly or servicing of the machine by two spring latch mechanisms which each include a formed spring fastened in a channel. The two spring mechanisms are welded to the inner face of the outer wall of the housing at diametrically opposed positions. The annular seal element has a notch in its outer circumferential wall on opposed diametrical sides to enable the seal element to fit snugly with the housing, with the channels received within the notches.

  • Patent number: 4372435
Abstract: A device adapted for use as a positively driven steering member in a conveying apparatus, having a wheel with a spherically curved inner surface, a hub with a spherically curved outer surface which fits inside of the wheel, and a coupling which secures the wheel to the hub, permitting the axis of the wheel to be rotated relative to the axis of the hub in any direction while restraining relative motion between the wheel and hub about the axis of the hub. This arrangement provides that, when the hub is driven by a shaft passing through its axis, it drives the wheel, regardless of the angle between the hub and wheel.

  • Patent number: 4359208
Abstract: An emergency brake control system for hoists including means for generating a first electrical signal indicating the direction of travel of a conveyance, means for generating a second signal indicating the presence or absence of an emergency situation and control means responsive to the first and second signals for immediately applying the emergency brake when the conveyance is descending and an emergency exists and delaying application of the emergency brake only after the conveyance has come to a complete stop when the conveyance is ascending and an emergency exists. Overriding safety features may also be employed to provide immediate application of the emergency brake regardless of the direction of travel of the conveyance of certain emergencies, such as over travel of the conveyance, exist.

  • Patent number: 4355502
Abstract: A polymeric chain link including two sidebars and a barrel connecting the sidebars. The barrel is comprised of a male barrel portion and a female barrel portion, each barrel portion being an integral extension of one of the sidebars. The male barrel portion fits inside the female barrel portion, and the inner mating surface of the female barrel portion cooperates with the outer mating surface of the male barrel portion to couple the two portions, mechanically locking them together.

  • Patent number: 4353459
Abstract: An endless conveyor chain is a sequential assembly of block links formed of a polymeric material, interconnected by thin fleixble links of undulated shape, formed of either metallic or polymeric material, which are easily capable of flexing through their thicknesses, making it possible for the chain to negotiate lateral turns in the conveying run by producing edgewise flexure in the links. Large bearing stresses, which normally result in applications where chain joint lateral articulation occurs in nonlinear chain travel, are minimized or eliminated since the requisite lateral movement is allowed by flexure in the thin links away from the chain joints.

  • Patent number: 4341407
Abstract: A latch assembly for aligning the holes in a panel and a frame such as those used in aircraft doors. The assembly includes a hook for engagement with a striker to retain the panel and a sliding hook mechanism to align the holes. The sliding hook mechanism is operated by a camming means to urge the hook toward or away from the striker to bring the holes into alignment thereby preventing damage to the fastener and freeing both hands of a workman to secure or release the fasteners.

  • Patent number: 4340338
Abstract: The casing of a pump defines a threaded hole into which is inserted an outer block for reacting radially directed forces transmitted by a second inner block from a movable, pressurized cam ring surrounding the pump rotor. The blocks have mutually parallel mating surfaces arranged generally tangential to the ring. Onto one of such surfaces is bonded an anti-friction bearing material, such as a woven fabric or metal, to facilitate sliding action between them. The eccentric position of the cam ring is partly established by the action of system pressure acting on control pistons while the guided motion of the inner block further positions the ring to optimal adjustments made to the outer block.

  • Patent number: 4325298
Abstract: A press assembly having an improved frame including a crown, bed, cylinder, and ram assembly tied together by tie rods and compression members in which a platen assembly secured to the ram assembly guides directly on the inward facing surface portions of the tie rods. Associated compression members juxtaposed around the outward facing surface portions of the tie rods provide stability to the whole press assembly and form part of an enclosure about the press assembly. Washers having outwardly tapering transverse portions are mounted on each tie rod to prevent bending of the tie rods at their ends.
