Abstract: A water injection system (WIS) for diesel engines that reduces NOx, PM and CO2 emissions is provided. Water is injected into the combustion air stream before cylinders in a predetermined proportion to fuel. The present invention utilizes a special water purification element, an oscillating pump, an electronic means to control both water flow and the size of water droplets, a means to prevent water from freezing in cold ambient temperatures, a plurality of special sensors to control water flow in response to rapid load variation, and a means for automatically switching between on and off operations.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new method for producing polyunsaturated fatty acids from algae. The method comprises the step of applying at least growth-limiting factor to an algae culture, causing growth arrest of said algae culture and production and stocking by algae in culture of polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Abstract: A food-heating appliance has a heating unit with a bottom and at least one upstanding sidewall, a heating chamber with an annular lip, and a heating element. A cooking unit is also provided with a bottom and at least one upstanding sidewall, a cooking chamber adapted to be at least partially received within the heating chamber, and a medial wall upstanding from the bottom wall defining at least a first and second cooking subchamber. The heating element supplies heat to the cooking unit via the heating chamber to heat the first and second cooking subchambers.

Abstract: A toaster for facilitating removal of food items by allowing the bread carriage to be raised from a loading position to a raised position. A toaster is provided having a housing frame having an upper portion defining at least one opening for receiving an item to be toasted. A carriage for supporting the item is mounted to the frame and movable relative to the frame to at least three positions: a toasting position, a loading position and a raised position which is located vertically higher than the loading position. A flange is fixed to the carriage, and an abutment member is provided for engagement with the flange. The member includes a slot defining at least a first flange-receiving area adjacent one end of the slot and a second flange-receiving area adjacent another end of the slot. When the carriage is moved to the loading position, the flange is positioned and may be locked within the first flange-receiving area.
Abstract: This invention is directed to a can opener appliance with a side cutting mechanism. The can opener appliance includes housing portions, which include a cutter support mounted therein. A cutter wheel is mounted at least partially within the cutter support and has a cutting edge for severing a can wall. A traction wheel is also positioned inside the housing portions of the can opener appliance. The traction wheel has a gripping surface to engage the can. The cutter wheel and the traction wheel are rotatable and the axes of rotation of the wheels are substantially perpendicular to each other. The wheels are positioned adjacent and spaced apart from each other to define a gap to accept a can to be opened. One of the wheels is moveable towards the other to engage and lock the can between the wheels. The cutter wheel then acts to sever the can wall and the traction wheel acts to move the can past the cutter wheel The cutter wheel is formed of a drawn tool steel with a Rockwell C hardness from about 53 to about 57.
