  • Patent number: 6164447
Abstract: A portable container to hold saw blades and accessories for a table saw has a cover and a base and an integrally formed handle at one end. The handle includes a snap latch and a push-to-release button assembly to hold the container in a closed position and that can be depressed to open the container. The assembly is positioned on the outer edge of the handle. The container also includes a raised position on the cover in which a flat wrench can be stored. Other tools are stored within the container by retaining tabs forms on the inner side of the cover. A post is extends for the inner side of the base to hold the blades and the flat wrench. The post is tubular so that the container can be removably attached to a table saw.

  • Patent number: 6133665
Abstract: A brush system for an electric motor is adapted to electrically connect a commutator with at least one field terminal of the motor. The system is provided in a housing of the motor and is accessible via an opening in the housing. In this system, at least one electrically conductive brush is held in contact with the commutator by an electrically conductive brush box, which has an electrically conductive connecting tab depending therefrom. The connecting tab is adapted to be connected to the field terminal. Also included is a frame which is configured and adapted to fixedly receive the brush box. A through hole is provided on the frame for allowing the connector tab to extend through the frame and connect to the field terminal. Further, an access door is configured and adapted to be latched to the opening in the housing by a latch device attached to the access door.

  • Patent number: 6112420
Abstract: A blade clamp assembly has a housing and a clamping lever to hold a blade for a reciprocating saw. The clamping lever rotates about a pin within a cavity formed in the housing. The clamping lever includes a body portion having a cam face and a handle portion integrally formed with the body portion and extending from the trailing portion of the cam face. As assembled, the handle portion extends slightly out from the edge of the housing. A plate is provided between the cam face of the clamping lever and the floor of the cavity. A torsion spring is provided to bias the cam face against the plate to hold a blade by the assembly. The handle portion is used to overcome the torsion spring.

  • Patent number: 6109157
Abstract: An arbor lock mechanism for use with an arbor of a table saw. The mechanism includes a bearing plate connected to the frame of the table saw and through which the arbor rotates. The mechanism also includes an arbor lock plate connected to the bearing plate and having an upper pivot hole, a central hole and a lower arcuate slot. The central hole includes a lower section through which the arbor extends and rotates and an upper section that has flat edges to secure the arbor in a locked position. The arbor lock plate includes lift portion to move the plate between an open position, where the arbor rotates, and a locked position that secures the arbor.

  • Patent number: 5969312
Abstract: The invention is a novel power tool with an ambidextrous lock-out mechanism to prevent unintended actuation of a power switch operatively associated with a motor that operates the power tool. The lock-out mechanism has a first unlocking means located to be conveniently operated by the thumb of a right hand and a second actuating means located to be conveniently operated by the thumb of a left hand, both of said first and second unlocking means capable of unlocking the power switch by inactuating the power switch lock mechanism in order to release the power switch and allow operation of the power tool.

  • Patent number: 5923145
Abstract: A controller controls the running speed of a variable speed motor of the type which runs at a speed related to the duty cycle of a pulse width modulated drive voltage applied to it and to the load being applied. The controller includes a setting switch for setting the motor running speed and a device for measuring the load being applied to the motor. Also included is a data storage for storing data representing a plurality of different pulse width modulation duty cycles for driving the motor at various desired motor running speeds and with various loads being applied to the motor. A processor is operatively connected to the setting switch, the load measuring device and the data storage for generating signals representing a particular duty cycle corresponding to a desired running speed setting and applied load to result in the desired motor speed. The processor generates these signals at a predetermined time interval to reach and maintain the desired motor speed.

  • Patent number: 5913645
Abstract: The fixed-base router includes a base assembly and a cylindrical motor housing. The base assembly has a tubular member defining a vertically disposed inner cylindrical surface with two longitudinally extending support ribs. The tubular member has a longitudinal slot or opening between a pair of adjacent inner projections. Only the two ribs and the inner projections engage the cylindrical motor housing when the base tubular member is clamped to the cylindrical motor housing. The two support ribs and the slot are substantially equally spaced from each other. Another set of ribs prevents tilt when the tubular member is in an unclamped condition, and a deflection limitation rib is provided to prevent excessive deflection of the base tubular member when the clamping force is too high.

  • Patent number: 5909987
Abstract: A simple and quick manner for centering a sub-base of a fixed-base router. The sub-base is provided with two sets of peripheral holes and a large central opening. One set of holes is countersunk and receives flat-head screws; the other set of holes is counterbored and receives pan-head screws. The router is sent from the factory with the sub-base attached by the flat-head screws. To center the sub-base the flat-head screws are removed and the pan-head screws are inserted to loosely mount the sub-base. The counterbored openings are oversized to allow lateral movement of the sub-base. A cone element is installed in the collet and engaged with the sub-base through the central opening. The cone element fully abuts the opening to center the sub-base, the pan-head screws are tightened and the cone element is replaced by a router bit.

  • Patent number: 5853274
Abstract: The fixed-base router has an annular base member supporting a cylindrical base member. A cylindrical motor housing is telescopingly received within the cylindrical base member; the motor housing includes three vertically aligned notches. A vertically disposed rod is rotatably mounted by the cylindrical base member. The rod includes an external threaded area in threading engagement with a threaded bore in a lever. The lever includes a latch for engagement with a selected one of the notches for coarse vertical adjustment. Fine vertical adjustment is obtained by rotating the rod with the latch in engagement with one of the notches.
