  • Patent number: 11557019
Abstract: A method for efficient image registration between two images in the presence of inlier-poor domains includes receiving a set of candidate correspondences between the two images. An approximate homography between the two images is generated based upon a first correspondence in the correspondences. The set of candidate correspondences is filtered to identify inlier correspondences based upon the approximate homography. A candidate homography is computed based upon the inlier correspondences. The candidate homography can be selected as a final homography between the two images based upon a support of the candidate homography against the set of candidate correspondences. An image registration is performed between the two images based upon the candidate homography being selected as the final homography.

  • Patent number: 11549761
Abstract: A system or method for thermal storage includes a recess or containment unit having a first storage layer and a second storage layer comprising a permeable filler material. An intermediate layer is disposed between the storage layers. A primary well traverses the layer in the recess. The primary well is in thermal communication with the first permeable filler material and the second permeable filler material. A heat source is provided for heating an inlet fluid. An input pump is in fluid communication with the primary well and the heat source. The primary well receives heated inlet fluid from the inlet pump and injects the fluid into the second layers. • Patent number: 11543474
Abstract: A method is provided for sensing a magnetic field in a magnetic gradiometer of the kind in which pump light and light constituting an optical carrier traverse first and second atomic vapor cells that contain host atoms and that are separated from each other by a known distance. According to such method, the host atoms are prepared in a coherent superposition of two quantum states that differ in energy by an amount that is sensitive to an ambient magnetic field. Modulation of the optical carrier in the respective cells gives rise to sidebands that interfere to generate a beat frequency indicative of the magnetic field gradient. The host atoms are prepared at least in a mode that allows measurement of ambient magnetic field components perpendicular to the axis of the pump light. In such mode, the host atoms are spin-polarized by pump light while subjected to a controlled magnetic field directed parallel to the pump beam, and then the controlled magnetic field is adiabatically extinguished.

  • Patent number: 11536243
Abstract: A nonlinear control design technique capitalizes on a wave energy converter comprising a shaped buoy having a variable geometry wave energy. For example, the shaped buoy can have an hourglass (HG) geometry having a variable cone or steepness angle. The HG buoy is assumed to operate in the heave motion of the wave. The unique interaction between the HG buoy and the wave creates a nonlinear cubic storage effect that produces actual energy storage or reactive power during operation. A multi-frequency Bretschneider spectrum wave excitation input was simulated for the HG design both with constant and varying steepness angle profiles which demonstrated further increased power generation with changing sea states for the variable design.

  • Patent number: 11531117
Abstract: A system and method to distinguish spoofing signals from true GNSS signals is disclosed. One aspect of the present invention combines measuring GNSS carrier signals with measuring jitter in a vehicle's position via a low-cost inertial measurement unit (IMU) to distinguish spoofing signals from true GNSS signals. The present invention employs natural and/or artificial jitter of a vehicle, that, when combined with a tightly coupled inertial navigation system (INS), allows the receiver to distinguish the spoofing GNSS signal from the true GNSS signal. This spoofer survivability algorithm may be implemented, for example, in the software of a GNSS (or GPS) navigation system.

  • Patent number: 11519997
Abstract: A laser-strike detection system includes an imaging sensor mounted on a platform, and a computing device. The imaging sensor outputs image frames that are each representative of a portion of the platform at a different time, during which a laser may be striking the platform. The computing device receives the image frames, and computes a delay map that indicates time-of-arrival delays of the laser beam at points on the portion of the platform. The computing device converts the delay map to a path-length variation map by multiplying the delay map by the propagation speed of light. The computing device fits a plane to the path-length variation map constrained by a topological model of the platform. The computing device computes angular deflections in x- and y-directions based upon the fit, which angular deflections define a direction from the platform to an emitter of the laser beam.

  • Patent number: 11522117
Abstract: A hybrid quantum system performs high-fidelity quantum state transduction between a superconducting (SC) microwave qubit and the ground state spin system of a solid-state artificial atom. This transduction is mediated via an acoustic bus connected by piezoelectric transducers to the SC microwave qubit. For SC circuit qubits and diamond silicon vacancy centers in an optimized phononic cavity, the system can achieve quantum state transduction with fidelity exceeding 99% at a MHz-scale bandwidth. By combining the complementary strengths of SC circuit quantum computing and artificial atoms, the hybrid quantum system provides high-fidelity qubit gates with long-lived quantum memory, high-fidelity measurement, large qubit number, reconfigurable qubit connectivity, and high-fidelity state and gate teleportation through optical quantum networks.

  • Patent number: 11518989
Abstract: A method of improving a ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCo) to have a higher protein score is disclosed. The method includes the steps of: making a modified RbcL of the RuBisCo, by, on an RbcL unit of the RuBisCo, either substituting Met for Leu, Phe, Val, or Ile or combinations thereof; substituting Lys for Arg, Thr, or His or combinations thereof; or both of these substitutions. The modified RbcL consequently modifies the RuBisCo and is added to a biomass host where it is stable for homologous recombination. Plastid and nucleus integration was observed. Example RbcL sequences are disclosed with the desirable substitutions. The improved RuBisCo can be used as an improved proteinaceous food source for humans and animals.
