    Abstract: An improved toolholder for clamping an apertured cutting insert into an insert-receiving site in a forepart of a holder shank. The clamp plate has a V-shaped pocket complementary to two converging edge surfaces of the insert, and on its lower surface is provided with serrations adapted to engage cooperating serrations on a fore portion of the holder shank.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a drill bit for use in percussion drilling. The drill bit has a solid bit body, has cutting members on its face and a centrally disposed rod-receiving hole in its rear portion. Said cylindrical internal surface is provided with an internal thread at a distance remote from the bottom of the hole. A cooperating drill rod has a forwardly tapering portion with a conical exterior face complementary to the conical interior surface in the hole of the drill bit and an external thread on its forepart.

    Abstract: The knife assembly consists essentially of a relatively light two-edged cutting insert and a heavier holder. The insert is symmetrical about its longitudinal axis. In cross-section the two cutting edges of the insert represent the acute corners of a parallelogram, the obtuse corners of which are occupied by two longitudinal grooves that are hook-shaped in cross section. The holder includes a base plate having a projection complementary to either of said grooves. A clamping plate secures the insert on the base plate and binds said projection and said hook-like groove together. In the assembled knife the cutting edge of the insert is bounded by two plane surfaces one of which is flush with a plane surface on the holder and the other of which is flush with a plane surface on the clamping plate.

    Abstract: A system is disclosed for controlling the discharge of articles from a steel belt conveyor. When articles are placed on the belt at the loading station, the belt is magnetized at a high intensity in a very small area which has a predetermined relationship, longitudinally of the belt, to the position of the article on the belt. The magnetized spot is also positioned transversely of the belt in accordance with the station where the article is to be discharged. At each discharge station there is an arrangement in the form of a plow and means to move the plow to and from the path of articles carried on the belt so as to deflect the articles from the belt. The plow operating mechanism has an electronic control which includes a Hall-effect transducer positioned adjacent the bottom surface of the belt and relatively positioned transversely of the belt along the path of the magnetized spots for that station.
