Publication number: 20050232716Abstract: A cutting tool for rotary cutting includes a rotatable basic body and a replaceable cutting part or loose top, which is connectable to the basic body via a male/female coupling, which includes a groove and a male part. The groove is formed in a front end of the basic body and is delimited by a bottom surface and two side surfaces. The male part is insertable into the groove along the axis of rotation and protrudes rearwardly from the loose top. The male part has an end surface and two flank surfaces. In the front part of the basic body a forwardly open slot is formed, which separates two elastically deflectable legs wich clamp the male part in the groove. In either the end surface or the bottom surface a recess is formed for receiving a projection on the other surface. The recess is larger than the projection in order to enable the male part to reciprocate a short distance in the groove, whereby the loose top is self-centering with respect to the axis of rotation.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2005Publication date: October 20, 2005Applicant: SANDVIK ABInventor: Magnus Brink

Patent number: 6945740Abstract: A rotatable cutting tool for chip-removing machining includes a basic body which defines a center axis of rotation. Cutting inserts are detachably mounted in respective cutting seats that are formed in the basic body. Each insert has a square shape and includes first and second pairs of mutually parallel major cutting edges, four corners, and four wiper edges. Each wiper edge is situated between a major cutting edge and a respective corner. The wiper edges are shorter than the major cutting edges and are inclined relative thereto, wherein an imaginary extension line of the wiper edge forms a first acute angle with the respective major cutting edge as the insert is viewed in a direction perpendicular to the top surface. The cutting seats are arranged to orient the inserts wherein an axially forwardmost wiper edge of each insert lies in a plane oriented perpendicular to the axis, and wherein a radially outermost wiper edge of each insert is oriented parallel to the axis.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2004Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Assignee: Sandvik Intellectual Property ABInventors: Inge Svenningsson, Ralf Lehto, Lars-Gunnar Wallström

Patent number: 6942432Abstract: A milling tool includes a milling body and a plurality of insert-carrying cartridges mounted in the milling body. Each cartridge includes front and rear side surfaces which oppose leading and trailing walls of a pocket formed in the milling body. The cartridge also includes inner and outer flank surfaces which interconnect the front and rear side surfaces. The body includes a slot which opens into the front side surface at a location intermediate the ends of the cartridge, to divide the body into a rigid base portion and an expandable portion. The base portion has a seat for a cutting insert. A threaded hole is formed in the slot intermediate the slot ends to receive a threaded wedge screw. Tightening of the screw causes the expandable portion to be expanded into contact with the leading wall of the pocket and thereby push the base portion into tight contact with the trailing wall of the pocket. Accordingly, the cartridge is secured within the pocket by a tight frictional contact which resists chatter.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2003Date of Patent: September 13, 2005Assignee: Sandvik Intellectual Property ABInventors: Kenneth G. Patent number: 6935102Abstract: A method of controlling the concentration of nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide in waste gases. A first lambda value (?1) of the air-fuel mixture is set to less than 1. The gases pass through a first catalyst and then through a second catalyst. The CO-concentration of the gases in the first catalyst is sufficiently high to reduce NOx to N2so that the NOx concentration is reduced to a predetermined value. Oxygen (O2) is introduced between the first catalyst and the second catalyst to oxidize both CO and HC to CO2 and H2O, to reduce the CO-concentration to a predetermined value. A second lambda value (?2) is measured in the gases downstream of the second catalyst, and a valve for regulating the air-fuel ratio is controlled so that the second lambda value (?2) lies within a predetermined range whose lower limit is higher than 1.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2001Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: Sandvik ABInventor: Nils Lindskog
