  • Patent number: 4452553
Abstract: A tool has independently radially adjustable cutting edges. Adjusting drives are provided for each cutting edge. Each adjusting drive is laterally spaced from, and axially overlaps, an adjacent adjusting drive. Each adjusting drive comprises a servomotor which directly drives a screw. A screw nut is axially movable on the screw and is rigidly connected by means of a bridge with an adjusting piston arranged parallel thereto. The adjusting piston is axially movable and is connected by a bearing to a tubular connecting rod. Axial movement of the latter serves to radially adjust an associated cutting edge of the tool. The connecting rods of the adjusting drives are coaxially and telescopingly arranged.

  • Patent number: 4450020
Abstract: In the manufacture of cladding tubes of a zirconium-based alloy for fuel rods for nuclear reactors by extrusion of the zirconium-based alloy and cold rollings of the extruded product with annealings, intermediate annealings, between the cold rollings and a .beta.-quenching of the extruded product prior to the last cold rolling, a cladding tube is provided which has at the same time good corrosion properties and mechanical properties by performing the .beta.-quenching prior to a cold rolling, after which an intermediate annealing is performed at a temperature of 500.degree.-675.degree. C., and preferably at a temperature of 500.degree.-610.degree. C. The zirconium-based alloy is a zirconium-tin alloy comprising 1.2-1.7% tin, 0.07-0.24% iron, 0.05-0.15% chromium and 0-0.08% nickel.

  • Patent number: 4449448
Abstract: In a double band press the compressing pressure is applied to the endless bands by pressure plates via intermediate pressure rolls. The pressure rolls extend transversely to the running direction of the steel bands and are interconnected at their ends by a guide chain. More than two pressure rolls are associated with each pair of connecting bolts of the guide chain. The axes of the pressure rolls are parallel and are offset transversely relative to the axes of the connecting bolts of the guide chain. In this manner, a stable connection of the pressure rolls among themselves is made possible, with the pressure rolls having a smaller diameter and being capable of being arranged closely adjacent to each other. A more uniform and higher distribution of pressure may be obtained thereby.

  • Patent number: 4443412
Abstract: A crystallizing apparatus particularly for use with undercooled melts. Crystallizing is effected on the cooling conveyor belt in a thick layer. A precrystallizer comprises at least two rolls arranged above the cooling conveyor and rotating in the same direction. A shear gap is formed between the at least two rolls. A melt is applied to an uppermost one of the at least two rolls in a thin layer. In the course of the path followed by the melt over the at least two rolls, shearing forces are generated within the area of the shear gap, which enhance the nucleation. A further enhancement of nucleation is obtained by cooling the at least two rolls, so that relatively large volumes of the melt may be crystallized per unit time in the crystallizing apparatus without the need for the addition of supplemental seed crystals to the melt. The amount of melt in the precrystallizer is very small.

  • Patent number: 4399168
Abstract: An improved process for the production of coated cemented carbide products is disclosed. A cemented carbide substrate is treated to form a metal carbide, nitride or carbonitride coating. The coated substrate is heat treated at a temperature close to or near the melting point of the binder metal of the cemented carbide to diffuse elements from the substrate into the coating. An intermediate (second) metal carbide, nitride or carbonitride coating is thereafter applied and the portion of the second is oxidized, nitrided or sulfided without detrimentally affecting the adherence of the second coating. Thereafter, a wear-resistant oxide (e.g., aluminum oxide) coating is applied to form the improved coated carbide product.

  • Patent number: 4396320
Abstract: A boring unit comprises a rotary spindle and a tool support mounted therein. The tool supports includes a rearwardly extending headbolt and a rearwardly extending supporting arm. The supporting arm engages an inclined wedge surface, the latter being movable by a connecting rod so that the wedge surface imparts rotary movement to the supporting arm and to the tool support about an axis of adjustment which is oriented perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the spindle, thereby moving the tool in a radial direction. The headbolt of the tool support is retained within a chucking cage. The chucking cage is movable to a position for releasing the headbolt by means of the movable connecting rod.
