Abstract: Methods and apparatus for imaging spectral lines are disclosed. Spectral lines are imaged using an imager that includes photosensitive cells. The photosensitive cells are arranged to form channels including banks of photosensitive cells. Horizontal blooming barriers and drains are coupled to one or more of the banks to limit accumulated charge in the banks such that the amount of charge accumulated and retained in at least one subsequent bank is incrementally increased. Charge is accumulated for spectral lines that are received by the channels to image those spectral lines.
Abstract: An optical sensor circuit for generating signals corresponding to received photoelectrons is formed on a single monolithic substrate and includes a charge coupled device (CCD) array. The array is formed of a plurality of pixels constructed by a standard CMOS process. Each pixel is formed of at least one charge well of minority carriers and a gate oxide layer overlaying the at least one charge well. At least two spaced gate electrodes corresponding in position to the at least two charge wells overlays the gate oxide layer. The space between adjacent electrodes defines a gap to transfer charge between adjacent ones of at the least two spaced gate electrodes and the gap is stabilized. A back-illuminated imager is also described in which photocarriers are diverted from devices integrated with the pixel by a PN junction formed in the pixel structure.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a methods, apparatuses and systems that utilize electric currents to direct the deposition of particulate matter to various surfaces.
Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle that identifies and classifies objects (targets) located proximate a vehicle. The system comprises a sensor array that produces imagery that is processed to generate depth maps of the scene proximate a vehicle. The depth maps are processed and compared to pre-rendered templates of target objects that could appear proximate the vehicle. A target list is produced by matching the pre-rendered templates to the depth map imagery. The system processes the target list to produce target size and classification estimates. The target is then tracked as it moves near a vehicle and the target position, classification and velocity are determined. This information can be used in a number of ways. For example, the target information may be displayed to the driver, the information may be used for an obstacle avoidance system that adjusts the trajectory or other parameters of the vehicle to safely avoid the obstacle.

Abstract: Embodiments of an apparatus for collecting biological aerosols from an air sample include a hollow tube adapted for pumping a liquid through an interior volume to an outer surface and a collection surface disposed on the outer surface and adapted for collecting the airborne particles from the surrounding air sample. Collection efficiency is enhanced by a charging mechanism that applies a charge to the airborne particles such that the airborne particles are deflected toward the collection surface. Embodiments of operation for the apparatus include the steps of providing the air sample, directing the air sample toward the hollow tube, and applying a charge to the airborne particles such that the airborne particles deposit on the collection surface/outer surface of said hollow tube.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for high-resolution 3D imaging ladar system which can penetrate foliage and camouflage to sample fragments of concealed surfaces of interest is disclosed. Samples collected while the ladar moves can be integrated into a coherent object shape. In one embodiment, a system and method for automatic data-driven registration of ladar frames, comprises a coarse search stage, a pairwise fine registration stage using an iterated closest points algorithm, and a multi-view registration strategy. After alignment and aggregation, it is often difficult for human observers to find, assess and recognize objects from a point cloud display. Basic display manipulations, surface fitting techniques, and clutter suppression to enhance visual exploitation of 3D imaging ladar data may be utilized.

Abstract: The invention is a method and apparatus for the detection of terahertz radiation. In one embodiment, frequency modulated spectroscopy is performed on a swept source of coherent far infrared electromagnetic radiation that is focused on a target. A beam of radiation passes through a cell in which the target is housed, losing energy as certain frequencies are absorbed by contaminants in the target. A detector is positioned to determine how much energy is lost by the radiation (e.g., which frequencies fail to transmit through the cell), thereby indicating the presence of contaminants in the target.
Abstract: A disposable-type hearing aid uses a relatively large single diaphragm or a large single diaphragm subdivided into a plurality of smaller active diaphragm areas obtained using a grate-like back support plate with ridges which contact and divide the diaphragm into the several smaller active diaphragm areas. The diaphragm and a backplate are enclosed in a metal housing and are disposed proximal and parallel to a shell-like hearing aid enclosure having sound inlets. The metal housing is closed at an end opposite the sound inlets by a printed circuit board (PCB) forming an acoustical seal for a back volume of the microphone. The PCB also carries substantially all the electronic components for the hearing aid thereon. The PCB has a ground plane in contact with the housing whereby the PCB also acts as an EMI shield. An electrical connection is formed in various ways between the back support plate and the PCB during assembly of the metal housing and components with the PCB.
