Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for automatically associating data with a resource as metadata based on a characteristic of the resource are disclosed. According to one method, a metadata association rule is defined for a metadata associator. The metadata association rule specifies a data value to be associated with a resource as metadata based on a characteristic of the resource. A user interface is provided for associating at least one resource with a metadata associator. In response to a resource being associated with the metadata associator via a user interface, the data value is associated with the resource as metadata based on the metadata association rule. The specified data value may be defined prior to the resource being associated with the metadata and independently of both the resource and a file system with which the resource is associated.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for protecting information on a user interface based on a viewability of the information are disclosed. According to one method, a viewing position of a person other than a user with respect to information on a user interface is identified. An information viewability threshold is determined based on the information on the user interface. Further, an action associated with the user interface is performed based on the identified viewing position and the determined information viewability threshold.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method for transmitting data utilizing a plurality of communication applications simultaneously in a communication device supporting the plurality of communication applications, and a communication device for implementing the method. The method according to the present invention includes establishing a first communication session between a user of the communication device and a recipient via a first communication application supported by the communication device, invoking a second communication application to transmit data to the recipient via the second communication application during a communication session concurrent with the first communication session, and, in response to invoking the second communication application, automatically retrieving communication information related to the recipient and necessary to establish the concurrent communication session via the second communication application.

Abstract: A method for processing data entered using an electronic device and an electronic device capable of implementing the method is described. In one embodiment, the electronic device includes at least one multi-value key associated with at least two input data values. Each multi-value key includes a plurality of units and each input data value corresponds to at least one unit. The electronic device also includes an eye-tracking system that determines an area where a user is gazing by monitoring eye movements of the user, and an input value selection module coupled to the plurality of units and to the eye-tracking system. The input value selection module determines probabilistically which input data value was entered based on a value received from at least one unit and on the area where the user is gazing.

Abstract: A method for registering an electronic device includes receiving from a point-of-sale interface a transaction code and purchaser information associated with a purchase of an electronic device. While the transaction code is associated with the purchase of the electronic device, it does not uniquely identify the electronic device purchased. The method also includes receiving from the electronic device the transaction code and a device identifier that uniquely identifies the electronic device. The purchaser information and the device identifier are associated via the transaction code for registering the electronic device.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for establishing a location for a digital image without the use of a GPS unit. Aspects of the invention include broadcasting over a network a location identifier (ID) identifying a location of the network; detecting the location ID by a digital image capture device coupled to the network; and in response to the image capture device capturing a digital image when in communication with the network, associating the location ID with the digital image.

Abstract: A method for presenting a route includes receiving a starting point and a destination point and computing a route that includes a route segment between the two points. The method further includes determining, based on a user's travel history, whether the route segment is an unfamiliar segment, and identifying, based on the user's travel history, a road that is familiar to the user and that is within a scaled range of the unfamiliar segment. The computed route and the familiar road are then presented in a format that distinguishes the familiar road from the computed route, and the familiar road is represented relative to the unfamiliar segment.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for selecting and presenting a route to a user. An exemplary embodiment includes storing at least a portion of routes taken by a plurality of users; receiving from a particular user a request for at least one recommended route from an origination point to a destination point; formulating a query based on user specified parameters to obtain routes taken by other users, wherein the specified parameters include the origination point, the destination point and characteristics of other users of other users; retrieving a plurality of the stored routes taken by other users in response to the query; and presenting the at least one recommended route to the particular user using at least one of the received routes that most closely matches the specified parameters.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for managing dynamic associations between folksonomic data and resources. One method includes receiving from a subscriber a subscription request to establish at least one of a first subscription to tag/resource association data associated with a resource and a second subscription to tag/resource association data associated with a folksonomic tag, wherein the folksonomic tag is unstructured metadata that includes a user-defined character string and establishing at least one of the first subscription and the second subscription.

Abstract: The present invention provides a computer-implemented method and system for associating presence information with a digital image. Aspects of the preferred embodiment include allowing an identifier associated with at least one object depicted in the image to be stored as image metadata; using the identifier to associate presence information with the at least one object; and performing an action related to the object using the associated presence information.

Abstract: A network host device is enabled to initiate providing of network communication configuration information for a network to at least one network-enabled device for establishing a communication session via the network. It is determined when a last communication session is terminated of a last one of the at least one network-enable device. In response to determining when the last communication session is terminated, the network host device is disabled from providing the network communication configuration information. In response to determining when the last communication session is terminated, the network communication configuration information for the network is automatically changed.

Abstract: A method and system are described for providing background blurring when capturing an image using an image capture device. According to one aspect, input is received for initiating an image capture process for capturing an image of a subject at an image capture device. A focus value corresponding to a focus distance that is less than a distance between the subject and the image capture device and that keeps the subject within a depth of field corresponding to the focus distance is automatically determined. The image is captured using the determined focus value.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for collecting contemporaneous information relating to a critical event. The method includes receiving a call requesting an emergency response to a critical event and in response to the call, using at least one communication network to transmit a request for supplemental information from reporting devices located in a specified area related to the critical event. The supplemental information is received over the at least one communication network.

Abstract: A method and system are described for tracking user activity related to network resources using a browser. According to an exemplary embodiment, a user-initiated activity related to a network resource is detected in the browser. The detected user-initiated activity is associated with the network resource to form an activity-resource pair. The activity-resource pair is associated with a record in a data store related to the detected activity or the network resource. By associating the activity-resource pair with records in the data store that relate to the network resource and/or the detected activity, the information in the data store can be used to add context to and provide insight into users' browsing activities.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for characterizing links to resources that are not activated are disclosed. According to one aspect, a page is presented via a user interface of a client device, the page including a link to a resource accessible via a network through activation of the link. The client device determines whether the link on the page is not activated. The link is characterized based on at least one of information associated with the link, the resource, and the page responsive to determining that the link is not activated.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are disclosed for presenting topical information referenced during a communication. A topic key phrase is received during a communication between a first party and a second party. A topic descriptor associated with the topic key phrase is identified. A topic descriptor weight associated with the identified topic descriptor is determined. A topic descriptor presentation threshold is determined based on a relationship between the first party and the second party. The topic descriptor weight is compared with the determined topic descriptor presentation threshold. The topic descriptor is presented based on the comparison.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically categorizing images in a digital camera is provided. In one aspect, a digital camera includes a processor that converts raw image data into processed image data at the time of image capture, an analysis module coupled to the processor that analyzes the raw image data at the time of image capture and identifies one or more categories to which each of the images may relate, and category tags that are attached to and stored in each of the images corresponding to the categories. By attaching and storing the category tags with each of the images, the processor can automatically sort the images by their respective categories.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing categorized images in a digital camera is provided. In one aspect, a method includes, storing images on a storage media in the digital imaging device, where each image includes at least one tag corresponding to a category for categorizing the images. A category list is generated that includes the categories corresponding to the tags in the images and the category list is stored on the storage media. The category list identifies, for each category, which of the stored images have the tag corresponding to the category. A category within the category list is designated as a default category. The method further includes accessing the image category list in order to display the images, wherein only the identified images of the default category are displayed, thereby speeding access to, and display of, the images.

Abstract: A method for providing user comments relating to a scene captured by an image capture device and a digital imaging device configured to implement the method are described. In one aspect, a scene to be captured is displayed to a user through a display device of the image capture device. The image capture device uses an eye-tracking system to track where the user is gazing as the user views the scene, and detects and collects a user input that comprises user comments. While the user views the scene, a processor in the image capture device associates the user input with a location in the scene corresponding to an area where the user is gazing.
