Abstract: An EPSP synthase (5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase) with high glyphosate resistance and a nucleotide sequence encoding the synthase are disclosed. The gene encoding the EPSP synthase has low homology with the reported EPSP synthase. A transgenic plant obtained by the expression of the gene in plant has an increased resistance to glyphosate after experimental confirmation.

Abstract: A conflict of interest detection system is provided. A data extractor retrieves a document and extracts author, title, and date information. A co-authorship finder finds out co-author relation among documents. A relevant group cluster identifies a key researcher in a particular field, and groups researchers connected to the key researcher as a group. A potential link finder identifies researchers who may have co-author relation. A relation filter filters out couples having weaker relation from the group having co-author relation. The filtered co-author relation data is then stored as a conflict of interest list.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for reducing or inhibiting fucose modification to a N-linked sugar chain in a plant, and a transgenic plant, or the like, in which the fucose modification has been reduced or inhibited. Transcription or translation of a gene coding for an enzyme involved in synthesis of sugar nucleotide GDP-fucose is inhibited by post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS), virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) or transcriptional gene silencing (TGS), and an amount of GDP-fucose in a plant cell is reduced, to reduce or inhibit fucose modification to a sugar chain including glycoprotein sugar chain, glycolipid sugar chain, oligosaccharide, polysaccharide, and the like, thereby enabling production of a glycoprotein, or the like, from which fucose modification, which may become an allergen, has been removed, and enabling clinical application of a medicinal glycoprotein produced with a plant.

Abstract: A combination DSC testing and Raman spectroscopy system is provided for running investigations on a single sample in the same experiment. A DSC instrument includes a set of optics, which allows an associated Raman unit to emit a pulsed laser that intermittently directs a laser signal to the sample and to collect the Raman signal while simultaneously running a DSC experiment on the same sample. The DSC has a vessel adapted to contain the sample, a thermal analysis environment is adapted to hold the vessel. An associated temperature control apparatus changes the temperature of the analysis environment between temperature endpoints to observe the sample at various transitions. The Raman spectroscopy unit is configured to generate laser pulses which stimulate emission of Raman spectra to provide further information about the sample without introducing excessive noise in the DSC aspect of the investigation.

Abstract: This invention relates to a simple and rapid method for the extraction and purification of small RNA from a sample solution. Accordingly, a sample is first mixed with an organic solvent to form a mixture containing the solvent. The mixture is applied to a first mineral support for large RNA to bind. The filtrate is collected which contain unbound small RNA, and is mixed with a second organic solvent to form a second mixture containing the second solvent. This second mixture is applied to a second mineral support for small RNA to bind. After a wash step, the small RNA is eluted. Also provided is a method for the isolation of large RNA, by eluting the large RNA from the first mineral support. In addition, total protein is present in the filtrate and can be isolated by a conventional method.

Abstract: Encoded bead multiplex assays for chromosomal gains and losses are provided that provide the benefits of complex, large template DNA sources, such as BAC DNA, as the probe material without bead networking or other assay performance problems. Reagents for assaying DNA are described herein which include a plurality of encoded particles having attached amplicons amplified from a template DNA sequence. Each individual attached amplicon includes a nucleic acid sequence identical to a random portion of the template DNA sequence, wherein the amplicons together represent substantially the entire template DNA and wherein the nucleic acid sequence identical to a random portion of the template DNA sequence of each individual amplicon is shorter than the entire template DNA.
Abstract: A method of making quasi-vertical light emitting devices includes growing semiconductor layers on a growth substrate and etching the semiconductor layers to produce device isolation trenches forming separable semiconductor devices and holes. Blind holes are drilled in the substrate at the location of each of the holes in the semiconductor layers. The drilling of the blind holes defines blind hole walls and a blind hole end in each of the blind holes. N-semiconductor metal is deposited in each of the blind holes. An n-electrode contact is formed in each of the blind holes by plating each of the blind holes with an n-electrode metal connected to the n-semiconductor metal. The substrate is thinned to expose the n-electrode metal as an n-electrode. Bonding metal is deposited to the n-electrode for packaging.

Abstract: The present invention provides for methods of treating and cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy or hypertension comprising the use of CaMKII-HDAC binding domains. The present invention discloses not only the fact that CaMKII binds to HDAC4 at a specific site, but that HDAC4 may dimerize with other HDACs. Both events can lead to export of HDACs from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, an event associated with the development of heart disease. Thus the methods of treatment and the screening methods of the present invention are novel attempts to prevent, treat or identify therapies for cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy or hypertension.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the field of synthetic crystal, and more particularly, this invention relates to doped low-temperature phase barium metaborate single crystal, growth method and frequency-converter. Molten salt method was adopted. The single crystal completely overcome the shortcomings of BBO with strong deliquescence, almost no deliquescence; its frequency doubling effect and optical damage threshold has improved greatly compared with the BBO; its hardness increased significantly, the single crystal with Shore hardness of 101.3 and Mohs hardness of 6, however, BBO with Shore hardness of 71.2 and Mohs hardness of 4. From the UV-Vis region transmittance curves tests, the cut-off wavelength of the single crystal is 190 nm, wavelength of absorption onset is 205 nm. BBSAG is widely applied in the fields of laser and nonlinear optics, and in terms of frequency-converter of ultraviolet and deep-ultraviolet due to its excellent properties better than BBO.
