  • Patent number: 4914769
Abstract: An apparatus for conveying a person lying on a support member includes a main body, a plate member, a guide frame for accommodating therein and causing the plate member to slide therealong toward and away from the person, a loading unit provided on the main body for supporting the plate member rotatably about a shaft, and a controller for controlling the rotation of the plate member. The plate member is controlled by the controller so that it is rotated about the shaft to slide along the guide frame toward the person until a forward end thereof abuts on the person, whereupon the forward end follows the contour of the person and advances into a gap between the person and the support member. Consequently, the person is loaded onto the plate member easily.

  • Patent number: 4914426
Abstract: Display of alphanumeric characters symbols, graphs and other information in a dot-matrix form on a CRT is enhanced by modulating the CRT beam sinusoidally at twice the dot matrix clock rate to produce two full cycles of sinusoidal modulation for each dot space. The amplitude of the modulation is selected to be one-fourth the raster scan spacing of the CRT, whereby two sinusoidal cycles of modulation in each dot space more fully fills the space allocated to a dot display in the vertical direction as the electrons beam scans the dot space in the horizontal direction.

  • Patent number: 4912562
Abstract: A half-tone reproduction of an object on a recording medium is produced using gray level values contained in the cells of an object matrix representative of the object. An actuatable marking device is operatively associated with and displaceable relative to the recording medium for printing a dot thereon at an exposure point determined by the location of the marking device at which the latter is actuated. A representation of the coordinates of the marking device is obtained, and converted to modular coordinates representative of the coordinates of the exposure point on a mesh of a fictitious of half-tone screen having a predetermined angular orientation relative to the print medium. A threshold screen value is computed from the modular coordinates, and a gray level value is obtained from the cell of the object matrix closest to the coordinates of the exposure point.

  • Patent number: 4911835
Abstract: A semisubmersible system for collecting a desired material from the sea water includes a submersible collection chamber which is defined by a pair of non-porous, buoyant side walls, a pair of non-porous end walls, a porous top wall and a porous bottom wall. A quantity of collecting agent is contained in the collection chamber. The buoyancy force applied to the present system by the pair of buoyant side walls is so set to keep the collection chamber substantially at a predetermined depth from the sea surface, so that the sea water is permitted to move into and out of the collection chamber due to wave motion while keeping the collection chamber virtually stationary in the vertical direction. There is obtained a large relative motion between the sea water and the collection chamber so that a large quantity of sea water is brought into contact with the collecting agent, thereby allowing a useful material contained in the sea water to be collected by the collecting agent by adsorption or absorption.

  • Patent number: 4910139
Abstract: Aspergillus niger B60 was immobilized in a dual hollow fiber bioreactor to produce citric acid continuously. The fungi proliferated well in the interstitial region formed by a parallel arrangement of three microporous polypropylene hollow fibers contained within a silicone tube. Excessive fungal cell growth could be controlled by supplying a nitrogen-deficient medium at the production stage, and also uniform cell distribution in the reactor could be obtained by changing the direction of medium flow. With pure oxygen aeration and nitrogen-deficient medium, volumetric productivity reached 1.62 g/l.h at a residence time of 4.02 h, which corresponded to a 27-fold increase over that of shake-flask fermentation. When the residence time was increased to 20.1 h, citric acid at a concentration of 26 g/l was continuously produced, with a yield of 80-90% and a volumetric productivity of 1.3 g/l.h.

  • Patent number: 4910122
Abstract: A light absorbing medium to be interposed under photosensitive layers, such as a photo-resist for integrated circuit "chips" to eliminate defects caused by reflected light, has a polymer vehicle which can penetrate into small depressions of a substrate and form a thin, smooth and uniform coating. The coating includes a light absorbing dye. This light absorbing layer is imageable in the process. The light absorbing material eliminates many of the defects caused by reflected light resulting in increased sharpness of the images in the photo-resist. The material reduces the losses due to defects and increases the yield of useable product.
