Abstract: A process for the preparation of 4-halo-3-methylbut-2-enyl lower fatty acid esters from isoprene comprising the steps of halogenating isoprene in the presence of a dipolar aprotic solvent to produce a reaction mixture of which a predominant portion is 1,4-dihalo-2-methyl-2-butene, and esterifying said dihalo-butene under esterification reaction conditions with an alkali metal salt of a lower fatty acid. The amount of alkali metal salt is sufficient stoichiometrically to replace the halogen ion in the 1-position with the anion of said alkali metal salt, a substantial portion of the product of the esterification reaction being desired 4-halo-3-methylbut-2-enyl lower fatty acid ester.
Abstract: Metallocene that is polymerizable by free radical catalysis and has metal nucleus in a state of oxidation below its maximum can be polymerized without oxidation of such nucleus by forming a reaction mixture containing said metallocene and the reducing agent of a redox catalyst combination, then initiating and maintaining polymerization of said metallocene with the gradual addition of the oxidizing agent of said combination to said reaction mixture.
Abstract: Waste water feed contaminated with fatty residue and a recycle of froth from a later stage of the process are acidulated; the resulting less dense oil phase is separated from the remaining denser aqueous phase; the pH of the latter then is raised to at least about 6 and it subjected to a dissolved air flotation operation for producing (a) a froth for recycle into admixture with said waste water feed, and (b) a treated water underflow substantially free of initial fatty residue content.
Abstract: Alpha-pinene is catalytically isomerized to beta-pinene in the presence of a neutralized alumina-supported mixed metal catalyst. The mixed metal catalyst comprises a Group VIII metal admixed with a Group IB metal on an alumina support, which mixed metal catalyst has been subjected to a neutralization treatment with a salt or hydroxide of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal.
Abstract: Alpha-pinene is catalytically isomerized to beta-pinene in the presence of a neutralized alumina-supported catalyst. The neutralization treatment of the alumina-supported catalyst is performed with a salt or hydroxide of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal.
Abstract: A pulley for a high speed positive drive system for business machines. The uppermost contour of the teeth of the pulley in combination with the contour of the valleys therebetween, when functionally engaged by a standard positive drive timing belt, provides a quiet running power transmission drive system.
Abstract: A high density infiltrating paste for infiltrating porous iron compacts comprises powder metal dispersed in minor amounts of vehicle. The powder metal is a blend of copper powder and between about 1.8 to 3.4% iron by weight. The powder metal blend is suspended in a hydrocarbon vehicle to provide a high density infiltrating paste containing about 95% powder metal.

Abstract: In a process for chemically stimulating the production of oleoresinous material in association with living wood cells it is advantageous to use a dilute dispersion of primary amine.
Abstract: A method and mechanism for automatically performing a typewriter function such as backspacing a carriage where the backspace mechanism is actuated upon removal of an insertable and removable ribbon cartridge. Particularly adaptable to correcting typing errors, the present invention will automate the final backspacing operation that is necessary before the correct character is typed and normal typing can be continued. A modified ribbon cartridge containing error correction ribbon carries at least one abutment that engages a backspace coupled actuating mechanism upon removal of the ribbon cartridge. Therefore, automatic backspacing of the typewriter carriage occurs after a modified ribbon cartridge is inserted into the typewriter to perform an error correction operation simply by removing the error correction ribbon cartridge.
Abstract: This application sets forth a synthetic lavandin oil composition having a distinct and pleasant lavandin-like fragrance which comprises linalool and linalyl acetate, the major fraction of which is substantially optically inactive and a sufficient proportion of methyl n-hexyl ether for imparting said distinct and pleasant lavandin-like fragrance.
Abstract: A cloud control agent for use in aqueous beverages such as soft drinks comprising ethoxylated monoglyceride in combination with essential oils wherein the ratio of ethoxylated monoglyceride to essential oil is between about 0.01 to 2. The cloud for beverages and similar food products can be effectively controlled by varying the ratio from about 0.01 to 0.75 to obtain an opaque solution whereas a ratio of 0.75 to 0 provides a clear solution.
Abstract: A method and mechanism for automatic actuation of single and repeat typewriter functions such as backspacing upon the insertion and removal of a ribbon cartridge. The ribbon cartridge, carrying a bidirectional camming abutment having a pair of converging cam surfaces is inserted into the typewriter, whereupon a first cam surface engages a backspace coupled cam lever within the typewriter, thereby actuating a typewriter backspace function. The cam lever includes a pair of convergingly directed cam surfaces joined by a dwell surface. As the cartridge camming abutment contacts the dwell surface, it actuates a repeat backspace function until the camming abutment passes beyond the dwell surface of the cam lever. The camming abutment includes a second cam surface that engages a second cam surface disposed on the cam lever to actuate a backspace function upon removal of the ribbon cartridge.
Abstract: This invention pertains to a one-component, low shrink molding resin system comprising a thermoplastic, branched alkyd in combination with a thermosetting dicyclopentadiene modified polyester resin. The low shrink molding resin systems are stabilized dispersions wherein the branched thermoplastic alkyd is dispersed within the dicyclopentadiene polyester resin (polyester polymer + monomer) to provide a uniform dispersion. The low shrink molding resin system can be thickened with alkaline earth and/or hydroxide thickeners suitable for use in low shrink molding compositions for producing low-profile molded parts.

Abstract: An improvement in process for producing encapsulated condiment particles by spray drying wherein a special surface-coating step is done while subjecting such particles to spray drying.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of preparing a beta-prime stable, tough, plastic and untempered pastry shortening which is functional for roll-in dough pastry applications over the temperature range of 50 to 90.degree.F. The shortening can be hydrous or anhydrous and is compounded from vegetable fat and mixtures of vegetable fat and animal fats. The compounded shortening is heated to the molten state and rapidly chilled with agitation as in a Votator A heat exchanger to a temperature of 62.degree. to 80.degree. F. and further chilled and kneaded as in Votator C heat exchanger at a temperature of 60.degree. to 75.degree. F. to form a plastic shortening mass which is extruded into desired form.

Abstract: An interposer in a typing machine key action is supported by an arcuate spring and a shelf. When a key lever bears against the arcuate spring to release the interposer from the shelf, the arcuate spring snaps the interposer against a pawl that engages a power roll to initiate a typing operation. Potential energy is restored to the arcuate spring as the key lever lifts the interposer back to rest position. The arcuate spring serves as a support and frictionless pivot for the interposer and biases the interposer against the shelf while providing energy to impel the interposer against the pawl.
Abstract: An insertable and removable typewriter cartridge having an abutment thereon for automatically engaging a function coupled responsive means of a typewriter to actuate the typewriter function mechanism when the cartridge is removed from the typewriter.
