  • Patent number: 8684362
Abstract: The present cartridge seal assemblies pertain to rotary lip-type seals. In certain embodiments, a sealing member is constructed of a relatively hard material that increases the lifespan of the sealing member. The sealing member is energized with a canted-coil spring, which in some embodiments includes an adjustable spring force. The present embodiments enable control of sealing force to achieve an appropriate sealing force between the sealing member and the shaft based on factors such as temperature, pressure, rotary speed, properties of fluid media, etc. to achieve longer seal life.

  • Publication number: 20140069018
Abstract: A roll-up door seal that may be monolithically formed from a single material of uniform density. The seal is sized and adapted to assemble to a standard roll-up door frame without a separate or dedicated frame structure. The seal provides redundant sealing surfaces, positioned to cooperate with both the door and door frame, which ensure an effective and durable fluid tight seal between the cargo space enclosed by the roll-up door and the ambient environment. The seal may be produced by extrusion from a flexible, weather resistant material such as EPDM, thereby providing a low cost solution for sealing roll-up doors having industry standard door frame constructions. The seal is firmly engageable with the door frame, such that the seal may be installed with little or no secondary fixation.

  • Publication number: 20140062028
Abstract: A gas seal for aerospace engines has a stationary seal housing, a rotating seal plate mounted on the engine drive shaft and a carbon ring seal movably supported in the housing with a face which mates with the face of the seal plate to create a gas seal therebetween. A plurality of flexible pins have first ends supported on the housing and second ends slidably connected with the carbon ring seal to permit the latter to shift axially. A plurality of compression springs bias the two seal faces together. The housing has a first twist lock which selectively engages a second twist lock on the carbon ring seal to movably retain the latter in the housing. The second ends of the spring pins resiliently deflect during mutual rotation of the carbon ring seal and the housing to facilitate engagement and disengagement of the first and second twist locks.

  • Publication number: 20140052647
Abstract: The present invention enables people to propose campaigns for crowd-source funding intended to label some public claim as bogus or to label some public claim that's being widely denied as true. A fee and several inputs are required to submit the proposed campaign application for vetting, review, editing and approval. Approved campaigns are published on a website so people can find them and contribute to them. A cash bounty is offered as a reward to any challenger who can refute (falsify) the campaign message. A fee and several inputs are required to submit a challenge for evaluation and decision. Challenges are processed sequentially until one is sustained (upheld as proving the campaign position is wrong), or until the campaign duration expires. When a challenge is sustained, the bounty is paid to the challenger, other pending challenges are closed and their fees are returned, and the campaign ends as “falsified” (“unsuccessful”).

  • Publication number: 20140041341
Abstract: An apparatus for heat shrinking a film wrapping an object includes a housing having a heat treatment chamber, a transport device for supporting and moving the object through the heat treatment chamber. Steam, supplied from at least one supply is led to at least a first and a second fluid outlet device and directed at the transported object using one or more outlets. The fluid outlet devices are disposed on opposite sides of the transport device. According to the invention the apparatus and method further include generating a downward directed fluid flow in an area extending between the fluid outlet devices having a lower temperature than the steam supplied from the outlets. • Publication number: 20140027558
Abstract: A delivery reel for an elongated sheet, having a disk-shaped flange member on which a sheet roll is positioned; an auxiliary core member of generally cylindrical shape split in the circumferential direction to enable expansion in diameter, and inserted into the inside diameter part of the sheet roll; a main core member fitted into the auxiliary core member which has been inserted into the sheet roll; and a stopper member attached to the circumferential edge of the flange member, and jutting toward the outside in the radial direction. The main core member has a plate spring. In a state in which the auxiliary core member has been inserted into the inside diameter part of the sheet roll, and the main core member has been fitted into the auxiliary core member, the plate spring presses the inside peripheral surface of the auxiliary core member toward the outside in the radial direction.

  • Patent number: 8616554
Abstract: The present invention relates to circumferential seal ring segments positioned around a rotating shaft so as to prevent fluids from leaking from a lubricant sump during both low and high pressure conditions. The circumferential seal is comprised of a plurality of adjoining annular ring segments facing the rotating shaft. Each sealing ring segment includes a dead end circumferential groove on a shaft-side face of each sealing ring such that, when the segments are joined, the circumferential dead end groove of each segment extends arcuately in the direction of shaft rotation. At least one additional groove is contained on the shaft-side face of each sealing ring segment. The additional groove(s) directs and creates pressurized air within the dead end circumferential groove, either directly or indirectly maintaining a seal between the ring segments and the shaft. A bleed hole may also be provided to create a seal between each sealing segment.
