Patents Assigned to Sekisui Specialty Chemicals America, LLC
  • Patent number: 8466243
Abstract: A sulfonic acid-functionalized vinyl alcohol copolymer is provided which is characterized by a substantial absence of compositional drift. The copolymer is produced by polymerization in two continuously-fed reaction zones such that the ratio of sulfonic acid-containing comonomer fed to the first reaction zone to the sulfonic acid-containing comonomer fed to the second reaction zone is within the range of about 55:45 to about 80:20. The resin is characterized by a resistance to irreversible dehydration upon exposure to harsh chemicals and by retention of hydroxide functionality upon aging. A resin composition comprising a copolymer lacking compositional drift is also provided for preparation of an oil and grease barrier coating, an oxidation resistant water soluble package, or a battery separator.

  • Patent number: 8097116
Abstract: Corrosion-resistant adhesive compositions are provided. The compositions are useful for bonding together plies in multi-ply cellulosic fibrous structures. Multi-ply cellulosic fibrous structures incorporating the adhesives, products produced from such structures, and methods of producing the structures are also disclosed. The adhesive compositions incorporate a polyvinyl alcohol polymer and a corrosion inhibitor. The adhesive compositions may be sprayed or coated onto the cellulosic structures to bond layers of the structure to each other. The corrosion-resistant adhesive compositions are useful for preventing corrosion in the various devices used for handling and application of the adhesives such as spray equipment and applicator rolls. The cellulosic fibrous structures may be used to produce a variety of products including paper towels, toilet tissue, facial tissue, napkins, and other absorbent materials.

  • Patent number: 7932328
Abstract: A product comprising a cold water soluble film wherein: a) the film comprises a copolymer of vinyl alcohol (VOH) with a minor amount of 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid in free acid form or as a salt of the free acid (AMPS); and b) the film has a harsh chemical dissolution time of less than about 80 seconds measured by the harsh chemical dissolution test method after 8 weeks.

  • Patent number: 7838597
Abstract: A fluid loss additive for hydraulic cement, comprising a polyvinyl alcohol resin and a fluid loss ameliorating sulfonic acid-functionalized co-resin, where the polyvinyl alcohol has a characteristic viscosity in the range of about 1 to about 25 cps. The invention includes, in some embodiments, an aqueous concentrate of the PVOH resin and the sulfonic acid-functionalized co-resin, where the total resin content is in the range of about 10% to about 40% and the viscosity is less than 15,000 cps. By way of the invention it is possible to adjust hydraulic cement slurry characteristics in real time upon demand and reduce inventory by providing a concentrated aqueous fluid loss additive.

  • Patent number: 7815731
Abstract: A fluid loss additive for hydraulic cement which includes at least two highly hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol resins having different molecular weights, or a polyvinyl alcohol resin composition having a broad molecular weight distribution. The fluid loss additive is suitable for use in cement slurries which may be subjected to elevated temperatures, as is common in oil and gas drilling operations. By way of the invention, cement slurries are provided which have improved fluid loss properties at high temperatures, while maintaining manageable rheologies that are conducive to mixing, pumping, and the like across a broad range of temperatures.

  • Patent number: 7745517
Abstract: A water-soluble film which comprises a saceharide component and a vinyl alcohol resin component, where the vinyl alcohol resin may include functional comonomer units such as sulfonic acid functional groups or salts thereof. Preferred are polyvinyl alcohol/2-methylacrylamido-2 methyl propane sulfonic acid resins (PVOH/AMPS) which may be purchased commercially with relatively higher or relatively lower characteristic viscosity. The films exhibit superior resistance to aggressive oxidizing chemicals and remain soluble in water after prolonged exposure thereto. The films are particularly useful for unit-dose packaging of chlorine-containing pool chemicals, such as trichloroisocyanuric acid.
