  • Publication number: 20130191262
Abstract: Consumer spend by industry is modeled based on the industry sizes of wallet of consumers having a high share of wallet with a financial institution. A size of wallet is calculated for each consumer in a plurality of consumers. A share of wallet for each consumer is also calculated. A subset of the plurality of consumers whose share of wallet is above a given percentage of their size of wallet is then determined. For each consumer in the subset, an industry size of wallet is determined. A correlation between the industry size of wallet of a given consumer and one or more characteristics of the given consumer is then derived using the industry size of wallet for the consumers in the subset.

Abstract: A Configuration Management System (or CMS) assists human operators with administering infrastructure elements in a data center. Configuration state information is collected and stored as a hierarchical set of features and feature attributes. The CMS save a configuration snapshot immediately before a change is implemented and immediately after a change. Comparing the pre-change and post-change configuration states, the CMS can automatically identify potential configuration errors and help better manage the consequences of implementing a change.

  • Publication number: 20130191075
Abstract: A status tracker tracks the state of a patient during a diagnostic test sequence to eliminate redundant steps between diagnostic procedures. The status tracker maintains a list of preconditions required for each diagnostic procedure, reads a current patient status from a memory register and verifies the current setting of the patient status corresponding to a specific precondition. If the precondition is required and the current setting is not valid, the state tracker further formats a test preparation step corresponding to the precondition for display to instruct a patient technician to satisfy the precondition. Otherwise, if the precondition is not required and the corresponding setting is valid, the status tracker formats an instruction to reverse the corresponding patient status or condition. The status tracker additionally receives feedback indicating when a precondition has been satisfied or the corresponding patient status has been reversed, and updates the patient status in memory.

  • Publication number: 20130186000
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to a system of presence detection in a door assembly for the prevention of patient/detainee suicide, comprising: a door frame, wherein the door frame defines an opening; a door mounted in said opening, wherein the door is allowed to operate from open to closed position with respect to the door frame; a presence sensing arrangement, which allows detection of the presence of an object near the surfaces of the door, door frame, and the upper and lower surfaces of the door or door frame from open to closed position. Placement of presence sensors on the upper or lower surfaces of the door allows presence detection when a patient/detainee attempts to drape a ligature object across or underneath said surfaces. A control system may monitor the system, and can activate an alarm system for early detection and prevention.

  • Publication number: 20130190374
Abstract: Described herein is a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR)-directed mutational analysis of tumor DNA obtained from melanoma tissue samples. The GPCR gene glutamate receptor, metabotropic 3 (GRM3) was identified as the most highly mutated GPCR gene in this screen. Functional characterization of GRM3 mutants revealed that these mutants promote activation of MEK, anchorage-independent cell growth and metastasis. Thus, provided herein are methods of diagnosing a subject as having melanoma, or susceptible to developing melanoma, by detecting the presence of at least one mutation in GRM3. Also provided are methods of treating a subject with melanoma by detecting the presence of at least one mutation in GRM3 and administering an appropriate therapy. Further provided are methods of selecting a subject diagnosed with melanoma as a candidate for treatment with a GRM3 inhibitor, an MEK inhibitor, or both, by detecting the presence of at least one mutation in GRM3.

Abstract: This invention relates to bispecific fusion proteins effective in viral neutralization. More specifically, such proteins have two different binding domains, an inducing-binding domain and an induced-binding domain, functionally linked by a peptide linker. Such proteins, nucleic acid molecules encoding them, and their production and use in preventing or treating viral infections are provided. One prototypical bispecific fusion protein is sCD4-SCFv(17b), in which a soluble CD4 fragment (containing domains D1 and D2) is fused to a single chain Fv portion of antibody 17b via a linker.

  • Patent number: 8494937
Abstract: A system incorporating method and associated apparatus for establishing virtual banking in a merchant venue or syndication of merchants for one or more consumers in a manner that increases the deposit-based assets of a related traditional banking institution by loading transactions of fractional currency amounts, preferably reflecting the acquisition of physical fractional currency, and more preferably coinage, and thereupon enabling inter-merchant (or syndicate) commercial transactions, including purchases and sales, in a manner that does not deplete deposit-based assets. Commercial transactions are at the direction of consumer(s) each with their own portable device linked to a merchant-hosted virtual account that maintains transaction details, histories and balances, and transmits data reflecting the same to the portable device(s) where it is recorded and displayed, upon demand.
