  • Patent number: 8105529
Abstract: A system and method are provided for molding a solid plastic part utilizing a mold having at least a core portion and a cavity portion which define a mold cavity. With the mold closed, pressurized steam is circulated through the mold cavity to heat the interior surface of the mold cavity. Once the mold cavity surface has reached the desired temperature, the pressurized steam is vented. When the condensate has been sufficiently removed, a fluid plastic is injected into the mold to the mold cavity. A pressurized fluid is introduced in the mold through a port on the mold core portion to bias the part being formed into engagement with the mold cavity. Once the part is cooled sufficiently to be stable, the mold is opened and the part is removed.

  • Patent number: 8104413
Abstract: A camless automated thread cutting system for an electronic lockstitch pattern tacking sewing machine having a sewing needle driven by a main shaft and having a knife mechanism in proximity with the needle for cutting thread at the end of a pattern sewing cycle. The cutting system comprises a pneumatic cylinder for mechanically engaging the knife mechanism through a mechanical linkage in the machine, a solenoid-actuated air valve in fluid communication with the pneumatic cylinder, a programmable logic controller (PLC), and a pair of independently adjustable discs mounted on the main shaft of the sewing machine and operatively coupled to a proximity sensor which supplies an electrical signal to the PLC. The PLC is responsive to a machine signal indicative of the end of a sewing cycle and to the proximity sensor signal for generating a control signal for actuation of the valve so as to initiate and subsequently terminate a knife movement sequence at the end of the sewing cycle.

  • Patent number: 8105609
Abstract: The invention encompasses nucleic acid molecules containing transcription units which encode the flavivirus M and E protein antigens. The flaviviruses include Japanese encephalitis virus, dengue, yellow fever virus and St. Louis encephalitis virus. The nucleic acids function to provide the M and E protein antigens when the nucleic acid resides in an appropriate host cell, especially when the host cell is the cell of a subject. The invention also encompasses a vaccine whose active agent is the nucleic acid. The invention further encompasses the cultured host cells when they contain within them nucleic acid molecules containing the transcription units. The invention in addition encompasses a method of immunizing a subject against flavivirus infection by administering to the subject an effective amount of a vaccine containing a nucleic acid molecule containing the transcription unit of the invention.

  • Patent number: 8106659
Abstract: A borehole formation testing system that measures resistivity of near borehole formation in situ rather than the measuring resistivity of fluid drawn into a formation tester tool. A radially extendable probe assembly contacts and forms a hydraulic seal with the wall of a borehole using a pad. Electrode contacts are disposed on the contact surface of the pad and electrically contact the near borehole formation. Response of the electrode contacts are used to determine resistivity of the near borehole formation. This resistivity is with a deeper formation resistivity measurement to determine if virgin formation fluid is at or in the vicinity of the pad. Alternately, a plurality of resistivity measurements is made at the formation tester pad and virgin formation fluid at or near the pad is determined from the rate of change of the plurality of resistivity measurements.

  • Publication number: 20120018506
Abstract: Apparatuses, methods, and systems pertaining to the verification of portable consumer devices for 3-D Secure Systems are disclosed. In one implementation, a verification token is coupled to a computer by a USB connection so as to use the computer's networking facilities. The verification token reads identification information from a user's portable consumer device (e.g., credit card) and sends the information to a validation entry over a communications network using the computer's networking facilities. The validation entity applies one or more validation tests to the information that it receives from the verification token. If a selected number of tests are passed, the validation entity sends a 3-D Secure datum to the verification token. The verification token may enter the 3-D Secure datum into a hidden field of a Purchase Authentication Page appearing on the computer's display.
