Abstract: Enforcing user defined and/or configurable policies to select which (e.g., DSL) line a (e.g., PPPoE) session would use when there are multiple lines present. This avoids the adverse network conditions that exist if the multiple DSL lines are directly connected to the premises local area network (or “LAN”). Once a line is selected, the session may be supported, in its entirety, over that selected line. A device may include embedded (e.g., DSL) modems so external ATU-Rs would not be required. Furthermore, the complexity of the modem functionality would be reduced since the embedded modem would not require the learning bridge logic, which is currently implemented in external PPPoE capable modems. No changes to premises networking equipment (hubs, bridges, PCs) would be required.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of isolating hydrajet stimulated zones from subsequent well operations. The method includes the step of drilling a wellbore into the subterranean formation of interest. Next, the wellbore may or may not be cased depending upon a number of factors including the nature and structure of the subterranean formation. Next, the casing, if one is installed, and wellbore are perforated using a high pressure fluid being ejected from a hydrajetting tool. A first zone of the subterranean formation is then fractured and stimulated. Next, the first zone is temporarily plugged or partially sealed by installing an isolation fluid into the wellbore adjacent to the one or more fractures and/or in the openings thereof, so that subsequent zones can be fractured and additional well operations can be performed.

Abstract: Devices and methods were discovered that successfully provided patient autonomous control of both hyolaryngeal elevation, anterior hyoid motion and opening of the upper esophageal sphincter for swallowing by intramuscular stimulation of two muscles. The technology allows patient self stimulation of swallowing and can return oral feeding to dysphagia patients. Indwelling electrode stimulation of only two muscles generated as much as 80 % of normal synergistic movement leading to swallowing. The devices and methods also are useful for control of other upper respiratory muscle groups involved in speech and voice. Calibration techniques may be used in combination for greater freedom in setting and using electrodes over extended implantation time periods. These methods and devices can control complex movements of body solids such as bone and cartilage and tissues by electro stimulation of a minimum set of muscles simultaneously.

Abstract: In a satellie mobile telecommunications system based on the GSM standard, and using a TDMA frame structure, discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode is used to take advantage of the substantial silences which occur during normal speech. In this mode, traffic channel (TCH) data is not sent, but control of the link between a ground station and a user terminal is maintained by sending control channel data bursts (SACCH) together with silence descriptor (SID) frames. To avoid high peak to mean values of transmission power at the satellite, the emission time of the bursts is controlled so as to be uniform over the available sending opportunities. Conventional techniques for doing this cannot be used in a system which includes diversity operation. Therefore, the burst transmission time at the ground station is set in dependence on a reference provided by the user terminal which is a modified version of the reference generated for contention resolution of random access requests.
Abstract: Error-testing of merchant messages to be used with point-of-sale (POS) devices is performed by an automated system that receives a formatted message to be tested from a merchant or an agent of the merchant, performs a computer-implemented evaluation of the message according to predefined message-validation rules to detect one or more errors, and notifies the merchant or the agent of evaluation results. The evaluation results include a listing of each detected error, if any.

Abstract: A method for communicating with a downhole tool located in a subterranean borehole is disclosed. Exemplary embodiments of the method include encoding data and/or commands in a sequence of varying drill string rotation rates and drilling fluid flow rates. The varying rotation rates and flow rates are measured downhole and processed to decode the data and/or the commands. In one exemplary embodiment, commands in the form of relative changes to current steering tool offset and tool face settings are encoded and transmitted downhole. Such commands may then be executed, for example, to change the steering tool settings and thus the direction of drilling. Exemplary embodiments of this invention advantageously provide for quick and accurate communication with a downhole tool.

Abstract: A communication network includes an SS7 Security Gatekeeper that authenticates and validates network control messages within, transiting, entering and leaving an overlying control fabric such as an SS7 network. The SS7 Security Gatekeeper incorporates several levels of checks to ensure that messages are properly authenticated, valid, and consistent with call progress and system status. In addition to message format, message content is checked to ensure that the originating node has the proper authority to send the message and to invoke the related functions. Predefined sets of templates may be used to check the messages, each set of templates being associated with respective originating point codes and/or calling party addresses. The templates may also be associated with various system states such that messages corresponding to a particular template cause a state transition along a particular edge to a next state node at which another set of templates are defined. Thus, system and call state is maintained.
