  • Patent number: 11585691
Abstract: Drill bit vibration data for lateral, axial, and torsional directions of a drill bit is collected for a simulated or deployed drill bit for visualization of 3D coupled vibration. A frequency converter transforms the drill bit vibration data into frequency vibration data. A drill bit analyzer identifies local maxima (“peaks”) in the frequency vibration data in each of the lateral, axial, and torsional directions. Common peaks across all 3 directions with sufficiently high frequency and sufficiently high bit rotation speed are indicated as 3D coupled vibration. A drill bit data visualizer uses the indications of 3D coupled vibration in addition to the vibration data and frequency vibration data to generate visualizations of 3D coupled vibration in the drill bit.

  • Patent number: 11585208
Abstract: A method for configuring a bottom hole assembly (BHA) includes receiving bending moment values for the BHA, curvature values and drilling conditions for a wellbore, and processing the bending moment values to create a representation of the curvature of the drilled wellbore. Processing the bending moment values includes selecting a set of curvature values in a specified range for a selected location, calculating a bending moment value for each curvature value, and determining an actual wellbore curvature at the location by matching the received bending moment value to one of the calculated bending moment values. The method further includes generating a representation of an actual path of the wellbore using selected curvature values at a plurality of wellbore locations, comparing the actual path of the wellbore with a planned path of the wellbore; and based on the comparison, determining a configuration of the BHA to drill a next wellbore.

  • Patent number: 11585212
Abstract: A DAS VSP technique is used to determine the induced fracture height and fracture density of an induced fracture region. The DAS VSP technique obtains pre-hydraulic fracturing DAS VSP survey time-lapse data to establish a baseline reference for the direct acoustic wave travel time. The DAS VSP technique obtains one or more time-lapse data corresponding to the subsequent monitor surveys conducted after each hydraulic fracturing stage along the well. Forward modeling is used to determine a theoretical acoustic wave travel time difference. The forward modeling uses seismic anisotropy to describe the behavior of seismic waves traveling through the induced fracture regions. An inversion scheme is then used to invert for the induced fracture height and the fracture density using the forward modeling. The two extracted induced fracture characteristics may then be used to determine optimal hydraulic fracturing parameters.
