    Abstract: A system for and method of use with a downhole tool that includes a tubular with a fluid flow path therethrough for flowing a fluid and a housing coupleable to a downhole portion of the tubular. A fluid-driven motor assembly is included and has a drive shaft rotatable to output rotational drive forces. An electric generator is coupled to the drive shaft to convert the rotational drive forces into electrical power. There is also an electric motor electrically coupled to the electric generator to convert electrical output of the electric generator into a rotational drive force to control the downhole tool. A controller is electrically coupled to the electric motor and the electric generator to conduct electrical power output from the electric motor to the electric generator and dissipate excess energy produced by the electric motor to the fluid-driven motor assembly as hydraulic energy.

Once prepared, the sample can be injected into a liquid chromatography instrument to separate the herbicide molecules from other molecules present in the sample before being ionized and characterized by mass-to-charge ratio and relative abundance using one or more mass spectrometers.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the invention introduce efficient methods for securely generating a cryptogram by a user device, and validating the cryptogram by a server computer. A secure communication can be conducted whereby a user device provides a cryptogram without requiring the user device to persistently store an encryption key or other sensitive data used to generate the cryptogram. The user device and server computer can mutually authenticate and establish a shared secret. Using the shared secret, the server computer can derive a session key and transmit key derivation parameters encrypted using the session key to the user device. The user device can derive the session key using the shared secret, decrypt the encrypted key derivation parameters, and store the key derivation parameters. Key derivation parameters and the shared secret can be used to generate a single use cryptogram key, which can be used to generate a cryptogram for conducting secure communications.

A client system can generate a private/public key pair associated with the client system and sign an API message using the private key of the private/public key pair and a PKI-based cryptographic algorithm, before sending the signed API message to a server system. The server system (e.g., operated by a service provider) can authenticate the incoming signed API message using a proxy authenticator located in less trusted zone (e.g., a perimeter network) of the server system. In particular, the proxy authenticator can be configured to verify the signature of the signed API message using the public key corresponding to the private key and the same cryptographic algorithm. The authenticated API message can then be forwarded to a more trusted zone (e.g., an internal network) of the server system for further processing.
