Abstract: For performing double-side printing, an image forming apparatus forms an image on one side of a sheet and then reverses the sheet if the sheet has not been reversed, forms an image on the other side of the sheet and then reverses the sheet if the sheet has been reversed once, and performs idle conveyance in which an image is not formed on a sheet and then discharges the sheet if the sheet has been reversed twice. According to the image forming apparatus and a method of forming an image by this apparatus, procedures of image formation by a user can be prevented from becoming troublesome and the sheets can be discharged in order of the originals.
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a polarizing element which has a sufficiently large birefringence index and exhibits satisfactory blue-light transmittability by a simple and inexpensive method for manufacturing a polarizing element. An organic material which exhibits light transmittability and birefringence, such as PET, is stretch-processed into predetermined forms that are continuously kept uniform, thereby forming a plurality of prism sheets. These prism sheets are laminated on one another such that prism sheets having mutually different optical axes make contact with each other, thereby forming a layered structure of prism sheets. By cutting up the layered structure of prism sheets, a layered structure of optical blocks having a predetermined shape is obtained, thereby realizing a polarizing element.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a semiconductor laser device having a protective coating with a high-reliability formed on an end surface, and to a method for manufacturing the same. According to the present invention, in forming a semiconductor laser device, an electrode comprising Au is patterned so that the electrode does not exist in the vicinity of a light emitting end surface. Thereby, even when an Si film is formed on the light emitting end surface, the Si film is prevented from contacting with the light emitting end surface. In addition, after patterning the electrode, an insulating film (a silicon nitride film) is formed on the electrode for preventing the Si in the protective coating on the end surface from contacting with Au in the electrode, even when the Si film contacts with a surface of the electrode.
Abstract: In the present invention, the thickness of an insulating resin 6, in an area Y1 of an active matrix substrate 2 on which a semiconductor film 3 is formed, is equal to the thickness in an area X1 of the active matrix substrate 2 on which the semiconductor film 3 is not formed. On this account, in a flat panel image sensor 1, stress generated inside the insulating resin 6 is reduced, warpage of the active matrix substrate 2 is prevented in advance, and impact resistance of the flat panel image sensor 1 is improved.
Abstract: In an image forming device of the present invention, which is a tandem type, electrophotographic image forming device, a first separating/contacting mechanism mechanically lowers/raises the whole of a transfer frame holding the transfer and transport belt unit in association with the opening/closing of a front door, a second separating/contacting mechanism mechanically lowers/raises the right side of the transfer frame in association with the opening/closing of a right side door, and a third separating/contacting mechanism mechanically lowers/raises the left side of the transfer frame in association with the opening/closing of a left side door. Therefore, the handling of a paper jam can be carried out even when power supply is cut off, and the transfer frame can be separated from the photoconductor drums just by opening a door from a plurality of access directions, on a side opened.

Abstract: A main body is separable into a static body and a movable body along a carrier path extending from a sheet feeding unit to a sheet discharge unit, and the static body is provided with an image forming unit. The movable body can be slid straightly with respect to the static body. The carrier path can be wide open along the entire length thereof by sliding the movable body, facilitating the removal of stuck sheet from the carrier path.

Abstract: A SnO2 film having a prescribed pattern feature is formed on a substrate by a wet film-formation technology (e.g., sol-gel method). A Ni film is formed on the SnO2 film by an electroless plating method. The electroless plating method is conducted in the presence of at least one sulfur-containing compound selected from the group consisting of thiosulfates, thiocyanates and sulfur-containing organic compounds.

Abstract: It is an object of the invention to enable a maintenance work to be executed with appropriate timing. When jam occurrence is detected by jam sensors placed in a plurality of positions in a sheet transporting path, a control section changes a display state such as a shape and a blinking period of a mark in a display section, in accordance with history information which is stored in a storage section. When the display contents of the display section is visually checked, the part where the jam has occurred can be identified from the display position of the mark, and the jam occurrence history in the part can be known from the shape and the blinking period of the mark. Therefore, it is possible to correctly judge the necessity of a maintenance work.
Abstract: A control signal MBPRG is inputted to individual block decoders that constitute a block decoder section 37 of an ACT type flash memory. Then, the level of the control signal MBPRG is set to “H” to select all the blocks regardless of the contents of address signals a5 through a13, and one word line WL is selected from all the blocks by the addresses a0 through a4. By thus selecting one word line WL every block that is electrically separated by the select transistor and simultaneously applying a write voltage during the test to the same number of word lines WL as the number of blocks, the possible occurrence of a bad influence exerted on the other memory cells is prevented even when the memory cells in which a write operation during the test has been executed include a memory cell that has a negative threshold voltage.
Abstract: A variable frequency filter circuit, provided with a low pass filter constituted of a gm amplifier, is a low pass filter circuit in which a micro controller controls a current value converting circuit so as to adjust a reference current of the low pass filter in order to adjust a cut-off frequency. When the variable frequency filter circuit is in an adjusting mode, the variable frequency filter circuit detects a shift in a cut-off frequency of the low pass filter for filtering an actual signal. As to a dynamic change in a power supply voltage, ambient temperature or the like, which cannot be detected in real time, a value of the shift can be worked out in advance and with accuracy via simulation. Therefore, the shift is compensated in accordance with the value stored in a data memory. This requires no need of an arrangement to have a separate reference filter for detecting a shift for compensation of the shift, thereby eliminating an influence the arrangement.

Abstract: When the paper size signal indicates small-sized paper, after the final sheet of a consecutive sheet feed operation of that size has passed through the heating device, paired rollers consisting of heat and pressing rollers are actuated to rotate for a predetermined period (rotational mode) while no sheet passes therethrough. After completion of the rotational mode, the paired rollers are stopped from rotating for a predetermined period (stationary mode).
