Abstract: Methods and systems for comprehensive socket API loopback processing on a computing device. In an exemplary method and system, a socket API processes loopback calls without resort to a TCP/IP protocol stock or lower level systems (e.g. network drivers), reducing overhead requirements and processing burdens imposed on the TCP/IP stack and lower level systems and improving overall computing device performance.

Abstract: Methods and systems for facilitating remote access and customization of internally generated printing node status reports. In some embodiments, the methods and systems advantageously facilitate remote access and customization of internally generated printing node status reports by adapting preexisting features that generate local hard copies of printing node status reports in response to locally initiated commands. Such adaptation enables a printing node to receive, process and respond to remotely initiated requests for printing node status reports in a manner that permits remote customization of the style of printing node status reports.

Abstract: Machine-enabled methods of, and system, and processor readable media, embodiments for, tone quantization error diffusion comprising a first stage process and a second stage process. where pre-calibrated index tables may be applied by which quantized pixels may be expressed according to halftones.
Abstract: A display device is provided for reflecting a black color, as enabled by an optical splitting photonic liquid crystal waveguide. Sets of top and bottom electrodes are formed in a periodic pattern. A first dielectric layer overlies the set of bottom electrodes, made from a liquid crystal (LC) material with molecules having dipoles responsive to an electric field. A plasmonic layer, including a plurality of discrete plasmonic particles, is interposed between the sets of top and bottom electrodes, and is in contact with the first dielectric layer. A voltage potential is applied between the top and bottom electrodes, generating an electric field. Dipole local orientation and non-orientation regions are created in the liquid crystal molecules in response to the electric field, and a wavelength of light outside the visible spectrum is reflected in response to optical spectrum splitting of the incident light.

Abstract: A method for instructing a mobile node to reduce the power used to transmit channel quality information is described. A scheduling mode of a mobile node is determined. An uplink control channel in a first format is allocated to the mobile node if the mobile node is in a first scheduling mode. The number of bits to use to insert channel quality information (CQI) on the uplink control channel is provided. The mobile node is instructed to reduce the power used to transmit CQI by a power reduction amount if the mobile node is in the first scheduling mode.
Abstract: The invention is a method and system for reliably detecting the start and/or end of silence periods during voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) sessions in a wireless communications network. A VoIP session typically includes “talkspurt” periods, during which VoIP packets are transmitted, and silence periods, during which silence indication (SID) packets are transmitted. Both the base station (eNodeB or eNb) and the mobile device (user equipment or UE) may inspect the packets to identify them as VoIP or SID packets. Alternatively, only the eNB inspects the packets. The eNB then flags the first SID packet after a VoIP packet as the start of a silence period, and flags the first VoIP packet after a SID packet as the end of a silence period. The eNB then modifies the header of the medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) prior to transmission to the UE. The UE then detects the modified MAC headers to identify the start and/or end of silence periods.
Abstract: A method for video processing based on motion-aligned spatio-temporal steering kernel regression may include estimating local spatio-temporal steering parameters at pixels in input video data. The method may also include using the local spatio-temporal steering parameters to apply motion-aligned spatio-temporal steering kernel regression to the input video data to perform at least one of upscaling and noise smoothing.
Abstract: A multi-layered barrier metal thin film is deposited on a substrate by atomic layer chemical vapor deposition (ALCVD). The multi-layer film may comprise several different layers of a single chemical species, or several layers each of distinct or alternating chemical species. In a preferred embodiment, the multi-layer barrier thin film comprises a Tantalum Nitride layer on a substrate, with a Titanium Nitride layer deposited thereon. The thickness of the entire multi-layer film may be approximately fifty Angstroms. The film has superior film characteristics, such as anti-diffusion capability, low resistivity, high density, and step coverage, when compared to films deposited by conventional chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The multi-layered barrier metal thin film of the present invention has improved adhesion characteristics and is particularly suited for metallization of a Copper film thereon.

Abstract: A method and system for updating a group of network nodes, such as a group of MFPs, with replacement software in a manner that improves network performance and the predictability of a completion time for installation of the replacement software involves throttling distribution of a software update package to avoid resource oversubscription while time-bounding distribution so that installation of the software update on all of the network nodes can be completed by a certain time and, in some embodiments, further involves determining a start time for distribution of the software update package based at least in part on a scheduled installation time selected by a network administrator, which provides a high degree of confidence that installation of the software update across the entire group of network nodes will be completed around a scheduled time (e.g. during “off hours”) notwithstanding the staggered distribution of the software update package.
Abstract: An upscaling (upsampling) technique for digital images and video for presentation on a display. An image at a first resolution may be separated into a plurality of channels. Each channel may be upsampled to a higher resolution. The plurality of channels may then be combined to form an image at the higher resolution.

Abstract: A fabrication method is provided for a core-shell-shell (CSS) nanowire transistor (NWT). The method provides a cylindrical CSS nanostructure with a semiconductor core, an insulator shell, and a conductive shell. The CSS nanostructure has a lower hemicylinder overlying a substrate surface. A first insulating film is conformally deposited overlying the CSS nanostructure and anisotropically plasma etched. Insulating reentrant stringers are formed adjacent the nanostructure lower hemicylinder. A conductive film is conformally deposited and selected regions are anisotropically plasma etched, forming conductive film gate straps overlying a gate electrode in a center section of the CSS nanostructure. An isotropically etching removes the insulating reentrant stringers adjacent the center section of the CSS nanostructure, and an isotropically etching of the conductive shell overlying the S/D regions is performed. A screen oxide layer is deposited over the CSS nanostructure.
Abstract: A motion driven event alert system and method synchronize output of follow-up event alerts on a mobile electronic device to changes in the state of motion of the device. Generally, the device outputs an initial alert in response to receipt of a new event from a wireless network. If a user fails to take action on the device after the device outputs the initial alert, the device determines a state of motion of the device and monitors for a change in the state of motion. When a change is detected, the device outputs a follow-up alert. If the user fails to take action on the device after the device outputs the follow-up alert, the device repeats the steps of motion state determination, motion state change monitoring, motion state change detection and output of another follow-up alert.
Abstract: A method for detecting a specific timing from a synchronization channel is described. A signal with a known sequence is received. Two or more correlation values between the received signal and the known sequence are calculated at two or more positions. The two or more correlation values are compared. A determination is made whether the position of the known sequence has been shifted based on the comparison. A specific timing of a synchronization channel is detected based on the determination.

Abstract: A method for reporting uplink control information (UCI) on a user equipment (UE) is described. It is determined a number of bits in a sequence of bits for transmission is greater than 11 and less than or equal to 21. The sequence of bits for transmission is segmented into a first segment and a second segment using a floor function. The first segment is encoded using a first Reed-Muller encoder. The second segment is encoded using a second Reed-Muller encoder.
