  • Patent number: 9299725
Abstract: A method is provided for forming a circuit-on-wire (CoW) assembly. The method forms a flexible line with a plurality of periodic alignment marks used as a guide to place CoW devices overlying a surface of the flexible line. The CoW devices may be LEDs, capacitors, diodes, photodiodes, resistors, thin-film transistors, or combinations of the above-listed elements. The flexible line may be a conductive material, such as a metal wire, and the periodic alignment marks may be vias formed through the wire. If the flexible line is electrically conductive, an electrically conductive adhesive may be applied to the electrically conductive line, so that an electrical connection is formed between the CoW devices and the electrically conductive line. Subsequent to placing the CON devices, processes may be formed on the flexible line and CoW devices such as lithographic etching and thin-film deposition. An active matrix array using CoW devices is also presented.

  • Patent number: 9279938
Abstract: A dual band color filter includes a periodic arrangement of metallic dots in a middle transparent medium, having an index of refraction, interposed between a first and a second transparent medium, each having an index of refraction greater than the middle transparent medium index of refraction. The filter accepts visible spectrum light. In response to the periodic arrangement of metallic dots, a surface plasmon mode is generated. In response to a diameter common to all the metallic dots, a local mode is generated, and in response to the combination of the middle, first, and second transparent medium indices of refraction, a waveguide mode is generated. As a result, two distinct wavelength bands of visible spectrum light are transmitted through the bottom surface of the dual band color filter, while attenuating one wavelength band of visible spectrum light.

  • Patent number: 9265477
Abstract: The present invention provides adaptive lightweight acoustic signal classification for physiological monitoring applications. In an exemplary implementation, the total energy of a segment of an acoustic signal recording body sounds is first determined. For each of a plurality of signal classes (e.g., good, noisy, weak), the probability that the segment belongs to the signal class is then calculated using the total energy and profile data for the signal class. The segment is then assigned to one of the plurality of signal classes by reference to the probabilities. Physiological data are then selectively generated and outputted using the segment, depending on the assigned signal class, and the segment is selectively applied as feedback to update profile data for the assigned signal class.

  • Patent number: 9269953
Abstract: A method is provided for forming a metal-ion battery electrode with large interstitial spacing. A working electrode with hexacyanometallate particles overlies a current collector. The hexacyanometallate particles have a chemical formula AmM1xM2y(CN)6.zH2O, and have a Prussian Blue hexacyanometallate crystal structure, where A is either alkali or alkaline-earth cations. M1 and M2 are metals with 2+ or 3+ valance positions. The working electrode is soaked in an organic first electrolyte including a salt including alkali or alkaline earth cations. A first electric field is created in the first electrolyte between the working electrode and a first counter electrode, causing A cations and water molecules to be simultaneously removed from interstitial spaces in the Prussian Blue hexacyanometallate crystal structure, forming hexacyanometallate particles having the chemical formula of Am?M1xM2y(CN)6.z?H2O, where m?<m and z?<z, overlying the working electrode.

  • Patent number: 9252328
Abstract: A method is provided for fabricating a light emitting diode (LED) using three-dimensional gallium nitride (GaN) pillar structures with planar surfaces. The method forms a plurality of GaN pillar structures, each with an n-doped GaN (n-GaN) pillar and planar sidewalls perpendicular to the c-plane, formed in either an m-plane or a-plane family. A multiple quantum well (MQW) layer is formed overlying the n-GaN pillar sidewalls, and a layer of p-doped GaN (p-GaN) is formed overlying the MQW layer. The plurality of GaN pillar structures are deposited on a first substrate, with the n-doped GaN pillar sidewalls aligned parallel to a top surface of the first substrate. A first end of each GaN pillar structure is connected to a first metal layer. The second end of each GaN pillar structure is etched to expose the n-GaN pillar second end and connected to a second metal layer.

  • Patent number: 9241672
Abstract: An acoustic physiological monitoring system and method wherein the usability for physiological monitoring of time segments of an acoustic signal recording body sounds is determined using frequency analysis. A time segment of the acoustic signal is filtered into a target portion in a target frequency band and a non-target portion in a non-target frequency band. Energies of the target portion and the non-target portion are computed. A usability indicator for the time segment is computed using the energies. The usability of the time segment is determined using the usability indicator. A physiological parameter estimate is selectively calculated using the time segment based on the usability of the time segment. Finally, information based on the physiological parameter estimate is outputted.
