Abstract: A document feeder includes a mode selector, at least two document sensors, and a feeding determiner. The mode selector receives selection of either a normal mode for feeding documents having the same size or a mixed loading mode for feeding documents having different sizes. The document sensors are arranged at an interval in a width direction of the documents, and detect the documents. The feeding determiner performs, based on results of the detection by the document sensors, a size determination to determine a size of a document being fed and a skew determination to determine whether or not the document being fed is skewed. The feeding determiner performs the skew determination when the normal mode has been selected and performs the size determination when the mixed loading mode has been selected.
Abstract: The present invention provides capsular polysaccharides from Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes identified using NMR. The present invention further provides polysaccharide-protein conjugates in which capsular polysaccharides from one or more of these serotypes are conjugated to a carrier protein such as CRM197. Polysaccharide-protein conjugates from one or more of these serotypes may be included in multivalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccines having polysaccharides from multiple additional Steptococcus pneumoniae serotypes.

Abstract: A microfluidic system and related methods of operating an electrowetting on dielectric (EWOD) device operate to concentrate particles within a liquid droplet dispensed onto an element array of the EWOD device. The method includes the steps of providing a non-polar liquid onto the element array of the EWOD device; providing a polar liquid droplet onto the element array of the EWOD device within the non-polar liquid, wherein the polar liquid droplet includes particles; and applying an actuation cycle comprising a plurality of actuation patterns, wherein at least one of the actuation patterns includes actuating one or more array element electrodes within a perimeter of the polar liquid droplet, and the particles migrate within the polar liquid droplet to become concentrated within a portion of the liquid droplet at one or more array element electrodes corresponding to one of the plurality of actuation patterns.

Abstract: In one aspect of the subject invention, a labeling shell is provided for a drug vial having a glass reservoir and an opening sealed by an elastomeric stopper, the labeling shell including: a polymeric tubular body formed to accommodate the reservoir of the drug vial, the tubular body having a first open end defining a first opening smaller than a diameter of the reservoir of the drug vial so as to prevent passage therethrough of the reservoir, wherein the elastomeric stopper is exposed through the first end with the reservoir being accommodated in the tubular body; and, a polymeric cap removably mountable to the tubular body to selectively cover the elastomeric stopper of the drug vial with the reservoir being accommodated in the tubular body. Advantageously, the subject invention provides a labeling surface for a drug vial, while also providing restricted access to the drug vial to limit tampering therewith.

The control means are configured to: determine that a working fluid has been introduced into a first region of the fluid chamber; and provide an output to a user to indicate that the working fluid is present in the first region. Once the working fluid is in the first region, the fluid applicator used to dispense the fluid can be removed without any risk of accidentally withdrawing dispensed working fluid from the microfluidic device.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a paper discharging tray and a paper detection part disposed at an upstream end of the paper discharging tray in a paper discharge direction. The base end member is disposed to face a discharge opening when being at the reference position, and the image forming apparatus stops discharging paper from the discharge opening when the base end member rotates by a predetermined threshold or more with respect to the reference position.
