Abstract: In a solid-state image capturing device having the locations of photodiodes in each pixel unit to be different according to a sequence, the light receiving sensitivity and the luminance shading characteristic are improved. A circumferential portion of a microlens 12 which is arranged above a corresponding photodiode 11 is formed so as to overlap an adjacent microlens 12 thereto, and the locations of microlenses 12 in each pixel unit are different according to a sequence. Light of an image that is incident upon each of the microlenses 12 is incident upon approximately the same portion (e.g., central portion) of each of the respective photodiodes 11.

  • Publication number: 20100026192
Abstract: A method of operating a photosensor comprising: applying a bias voltage to a photosensor (12) comprising n (n>1) photo-sensitive elements (8) connected in series, and determining the photocurrent in the photosensor (12) at a time when the applied bias voltage across the photosensor maintains the photosensor at or close to the point at which it has the greatest signal-to-noise ratio. This may conveniently be done by determining the current in the photosensor at a time when the applied bias voltage across the photosensor is equal or approximately equal to n×Vbi, where Vbi is the bias voltage about which the current in a single one of the photo-sensitive elements (8), in the dark, changes sign. In an embodiment in which the photo-sensitive elements (8) are photodiodes, the bias voltage Vbi is the “built-in” voltage of the photodiodes. The photocurrent generated when n series-connected photodiodes are illuminated is approximately equal to the photocurrent generated when one photodiode is illuminated.

Abstract: An image processing system includes a printing device configured to print a halftone dot using multi-tone levels. The halftone dot is made up of a plurality of pixels, and each pixel is associated with a corresponding tone level. The image processing system further includes a processor. The processor is configured to receive a request to print a bitmap including one or more colors and to identify a grey level for each of the one or more colors. One of the multi-tone levels is associated with the identified grey level, and a halftone matrix is selected for the associated multi-tone level. Each of the multi-tone levels is associated with a different halftone matrix. The processor is further configured to compare the identified grey level with a plurality of pixel threshold values of the selected halftone matrix to determine the corresponding tone level of each of the plurality of pixels.

  • Publication number: 20100026921
Abstract: In one embodiment of the present invention, a display device is enabled to make the display impulse and to improve the charging characteristics of pixel capacities while suppressing the complexity of a drive circuit or the like and the increase in the operating frequency. In an active matrix substrate of a liquid crystal display device, each pixel electrode is connected through a pixel TFT with a source line and through a discharging TFT with a holding capacity line. For one frame period, a liquid crystal capacity, as established by the pixel electrode corresponding to each display line and a common electrode, is charged, when the pixel TFT is turned ON by a pixel scanning signal on a pixel gate line, and is then discharged when the discharging TFT is turned ON by a discharging scanning signal on a discharging gate line. The source line is subjected to a 2-H dot inverse drive but to a charge share for every horizontal periods.

  • Patent number: 7656499
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display for which the one drop filling method is used to fill the gap between the substrates thereof and provides a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display which can achieve high display characteristics. Droplets of a liquid crystal are dispensed in positions associated with exposure joint lines at boundaries between respective couples of adjoining regions to be exposed. Since this prevents stripe-like irregularities and grid-like irregularities from overlapping each other, display irregularities become less visually perceptible.
